BF:BC’s DLC is just plain BS. Boycott this game.

NOTE: In order to spread the word on this effort, we would appreciate your Diggs. Thanks for helping out!

Yes, I’m playing the Battlefield: Bad Company beta. Why? ‘Cause it’s free. Will I buy the game? Probably not. Why? Because once again EA is fu*king consumers that spend 60 dollars on games by charging consumers even more money to buy additional in-game weapons through XBLM.

This is my big middle finger pointed right at EA. See what I plan on doing about it, after the jump!

Turns out that all of the hub bub about EA selling additional content including extra weapons as downloadable content is all true. Here’s EA’s response, straight from Kotaku:

“…Battlefield: Bad Company features numerous weapons in the core game. In addition to the core set of weapons, Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch. EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions.

At launch, EA will release a Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company which will feature an additional five new weapons. For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item. All weapons are balanced for gameplay. More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items.

Currently, the menu in the Battlefield: Bad Company beta notes all ten weapons; the five available free of charge pre-launch as well as the additional five available in the Gold Edition.

We will have more details on the pre-launch campaign and Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company in the next few weeks.”

I’ve played almost every iteration of Battlefield since Battlefield 1942. I love the series. I love DICE as a video game company, even though they’re now owned by EA. I just can’t take any more of this DLC crap. Not anymore.

When are people going to wake up and realize that if you stopped buying the crap, EA would stop selling it?

On the other hand, I can’t blame the fans of the games. These are really good games. Battlefield: Bad Company looks to be stellar as well. Why wouldn’t you want to spend just a bit more to enhance your experience? I don’t blame the fans of the game, I blame EA for exploiting them.

It’s ridiculous.

How, in good conscience, can EA take more money out of fan’s pockets, who have already spent 60 bucks on the game. EA has said that the game’s weapons are appropriately balanced and that the new guns won’t unbalance a game. If that’s the case, then why buy them? What value do they even have? I’m not buying what EA is selling and you shouldn’t either.

It’s time to boycott EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company.

boycott.JPGI am asking Sarcastic Gamer and Gamercast Network faithful to band together to protest this despicable exploitation of the true fans of the series. If you want to send a message, post a message to EA in the comments below. If we get enough support, we’ll be sending a message to people at EA, that I know for a fact, read this site.

    • j0em0f0 says:

      Boycott F.T.W!

    • Moosehound says:

Yeah count me in too guys.

EA has been sucking at the marrow of the game industry for too long now. Churning out the same old trash each year and adding 1 to the title and tweaking the graphics a little.

If the main product was free or £10 – £15 ($20 – $30) and then you pay for the extras you want to customise your game to your style then I would be onboard with that concept. Infact the model they are following is from Korea, and the majority of the time the game is free and then you pay for the DLC you require – fair enough!

EA are cock-jockier really because if they just stayed quiet and then released this “DLC” in 2 months then people would have be more accepting.

On the other hand EA/Criterion are opening up several new areas via DLC for Burnout Paradise for free…. I would imagine it’s the influence of Criterion that has secured that.

    • Hell yeah suck it EA lol. It just doesn’t make any sense, there so obsessed with making that extra buck that they are forgetting who they actually make the games for….the gamers. They’re not thinking long term, even if a few people buy the extra stuff, the number of fans they lose is gonna hurt much more in the longrun. Viva la revolucion!!! Don’t tase me dude!!!

      But no thank you EA.
You can stick this, and the ridiculously priced Rock Band (UK) up your corporate arses.

    • mrsleep says:

You can start all the internet petitions and boycotts you want, if it makes you feel better. The only protest that will work is to protest with your wallet and DON’T BUY IT.

This is the latest on the issue from Dice at the BF bad comapny site. http://www.battlefield.com/badcompany/

Free Downloadable content – this has probably been one of the hottest topics out there, and we need to clarify this. There will be a variety of programs that will allow you to download 5 weapons for free – more info on this to follow. The remaining weapons will be available with the gold edition of the game, but we’ve taken all possible care to ensure that they don’t impact game balance negatively.

    • Lono says:

@MrSleep: Our protest is to NOT BUY IT. FYI. That is what the protest is… thanks for the support?

    • Henry says:

Good Job EA. More reason why gamers hate to see you grow. And seriously, do a better job on the PS3. It’s pathetic to see how a large company like you whine about how difficult it is to develop on the PS3.

    • sorry but is it normal to basically ask if ur a fanboy when joining a forum/website ? cos thats what n4g just did lol.

EA turned over a new leaf. Pfft money grabbing idiots, they’ll stagnate the whole industry if they’re left to their own devices.

    • Sangor says:

It’s just greed, didn’t expect anything else from EA.

    • john kewley says:

EA should be aware that us the buyer shouldnt be made to pay for extra content like extra weapons unless they reduce the cost of the game of the game in the first instance. Balance of the game from reports seems to be infavour of the buyers who pay for the extra content. Shame on you EA – screwing us once again.

    • Reddy Red says:

EA, you suck.. im not interested in a game made by a company that enjoys abusing its customers like this.. its not the first time they’ve tried something like this with DLC but i hope its the last..

Consider this my resignation for the EA gaming nation..

I somehow got the idea EA where trying to improve there image lately,
i think i was wrong. first this now rock band costing 601321.0568 Ugandan Shillings!
      Now thats steep!

EA its in the game (but you still have to pay for it).

    • COL_SMITTY says:

Screw EA, this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard of! I agree with you guys!

Because charging you an extra ten dollars for a different version with all the DLC included is OK…

Damage Control now, because what you are seeing, and reading, is the beginning of the split between gamers and the media who ARE SUPPOSED to be catching this junk before the END USER is supposed to.

But since just about every media site is skinning their pages, or listing companies that don’t give them perks, we can honestly say the gaming media has completely gone away from the end user.

Remember when you could TRUST a review? Remember when a GOOD PRODUCT was more important than good press? I do. So quote Bryan Alvarez, “NO BUYS!”

XBox 360 – When will it stop?

    • ShagsterP says:

I?ve already decided to boycott it, along with my friends I usually play as a squad with on previous Battlefield titles.

I think it?s like this for others, but this is less of a single incident enragement and more of a final straw in a line of straws. Balancing issues, patches causing more problems than fixing them, and EA STILL can?t get their game to stop randomly crashing servers in 2142 (but the last patch was so PERFECT for them that they decided the game no longer needed any support).

This was a long time coming, and I hope it makes a difference. This certainly eased my decision for Call of Duty 4 over this game, and that?s after devotedly playing the previous two Battlefields.
