BF:BC’s DLC is just plain BS. Boycott this game.

NOTE: In order to spread the word on this effort, we would appreciate your Diggs. Thanks for helping out!

Yes, I’m playing the Battlefield: Bad Company beta. Why? ‘Cause it’s free. Will I buy the game? Probably not. Why? Because once again EA is fu*king consumers that spend 60 dollars on games by charging consumers even more money to buy additional in-game weapons through XBLM.

This is my big middle finger pointed right at EA. See what I plan on doing about it, after the jump!

Turns out that all of the hub bub about EA selling additional content including extra weapons as downloadable content is all true. Here’s EA’s response, straight from Kotaku:

“…Battlefield: Bad Company features numerous weapons in the core game. In addition to the core set of weapons, Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch. EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions.

At launch, EA will release a Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company which will feature an additional five new weapons. For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item. All weapons are balanced for gameplay. More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items.

Currently, the menu in the Battlefield: Bad Company beta notes all ten weapons; the five available free of charge pre-launch as well as the additional five available in the Gold Edition.

We will have more details on the pre-launch campaign and Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company in the next few weeks.”

I’ve played almost every iteration of Battlefield since Battlefield 1942. I love the series. I love DICE as a video game company, even though they’re now owned by EA. I just can’t take any more of this DLC crap. Not anymore.

When are people going to wake up and realize that if you stopped buying the crap, EA would stop selling it?

On the other hand, I can’t blame the fans of the games. These are really good games. Battlefield: Bad Company looks to be stellar as well. Why wouldn’t you want to spend just a bit more to enhance your experience? I don’t blame the fans of the game, I blame EA for exploiting them.

It’s ridiculous.

How, in good conscience, can EA take more money out of fan’s pockets, who have already spent 60 bucks on the game. EA has said that the game’s weapons are appropriately balanced and that the new guns won’t unbalance a game. If that’s the case, then why buy them? What value do they even have? I’m not buying what EA is selling and you shouldn’t either.

It’s time to boycott EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company.

boycott.JPGI am asking Sarcastic Gamer and Gamercast Network faithful to band together to protest this despicable exploitation of the true fans of the series. If you want to send a message, post a message to EA in the comments below. If we get enough support, we’ll be sending a message to people at EA, that I know for a fact, read this site.

This game looks really really fun. But I ain’t buying now that i know this. I’m with you.

Maps are one thing, but charging for weapons is ridiculous. This is the American market not Japan. We do not flow on in-game micro transactions. I really hope in light of EA’s quality decline that you guys do away with this marketing stunt and wise up. Us gamers have funded and made the gaming industry what it is today. We are tightly knitted and pushing us away is going to be a big mistake. Wise up.

    • Cardy says:

I was seriously looking forward to this game through watching the development of it till this.. Looks like Bad Company will be off my games list & il let my friends know also of this terrible behaviour of EA

    • Robin says:

Not buying this game. DLC is something you are support to work on after you finish a full game.

You don’t charge a full price for a partially completed game, and then charge extra for the rest of it.

      That’s insane.

    • Johnz0r says:

buying guns from ea for additional charge is just as bad as buying mmo gold from a chinese sweatshop hell ide rather throw my cash away

    • Lilkuke says:

I am so in. This is wrong, and it has to stop.

I wanted this game till I found out EA is gonna rip gamers off again. DLC maps are fine but guns?!? I won’t be buying this game or any other games from EA! gamer tag: HotShot424

    • Blash says:

I was going to get this before they announced the “marketing” – I think EA has the right to SELL extra content – Microsoft does it with Vista after all, with each of the different versions.

But now EA wants me to give them my personal info (even if its faked) so they can spam it to hell? NO WAY. Go steal someone else’s inbox – I’m no longer giving you $70 for the Gold Edition, until you reverse this and either go back to a sell-model or remove the “marketing” or remove the guns altogether.

I’ve emailed every blog I belong to, and it looks like one of them is responding.

Seriously, EA. Take the hint and get with the program. Let us gamers go back to our reality-escaping apathy. Learn from CoS and others: d0n’t piss off the internet. It’s a series of tubes for God’s sake!

    • Curtis B. says:

Would it cost you ANYTHING, to just include the weapons in the full priced main game?

Would it hurt you to gain the respect, rather than contempt, of your customers, EA?

AS FOR THE BOYCOTT, I SUGGEST A CHANGE OF TACTICS:

I will buy a pre-owned copy and stay away from the DLC. And so should you. I am going to explain why:

Buying pre-owned is “stealing”. The same way piracy is, according to these people. They won’t get a dollar from you, if you buy the game on Ebay, for example.

Boycotting EA can be done without boycotting the actual games. There is no need for masochism, my fellow revolutionaries!

WHEN I AM DONE with my pre-owned BF:BC, I WILL THEN SELL IT FOR 50% of what I payed. If we all use this tactic instead of just not buying, and spread the news, we can easily snatch customers from EA. Why would they pay full price, when they can get good quality pre-owned for less than half of that…?

That way we can play the game, we get 50% back when we re-sell, AND WE DELIVER A GREATER IMPACT ON THE OFFICIAL SALES,
by making a large number of perfectly legal, low price, pre-owned versions available to the customers who wouldn’t give a damn about our revolution, BUT DO CARE ABOUT SAVING MONEY, as well as other revolutionaries looking for their CLEAN copy.

How do you all feel about that?

      Over and out,

      / Curtis Blackburn.

    • Dreygon says:

EA needs to be put in their place. All they care about is money, and it’s obvious with every game they make.

      Signed

    • Lono says:

We won guys, no need to sign anymore, although we really appreciate everyone’s support.

    • Bud says:

yea this is a load of BS
i mean they amke enough money as it is.
why should they do this its so damm stupid

      signed

    • zac says:

your an stupid if you want to boycott battlefield bad company its going to be one of the best selling games of the year. dont be mad because mama or daddy wont go out and get u the game i mean really. a lot of people is looking forward to this game and if they find out it was stop by you they will find u chop off your nuts if u have any and fu*k your parents all night long

    • Sonny says:

Not buying anymore. EA is beginning to own to video game world. Video games are a relatively new thing and if EA becomes the central company in all this, they will only destroy it. $60 is already overpriced for the average video game. If something can be a part of the game, then you should include it in the game. Obviously its not like they need time to design and model these weapons because they have already been seen. So why not just make them part of the game they are being designed for? I will NOT be paying extra and I will NOT buy the game if this is how the game will be.

    • MBrack says:

Well if you are boycotting BF:BS…I am currently playing Frontlines FOW and the Kaos developers listen and work with the comunnity….this game was average but now is awesome….50 player dedicated servers for xbl…Conquest mode will also be avail for free download soon…Just throwing an option out there!

    • Jawaguy says:

Well, I just downloaded the demo for BF: BC today. I played a bit of it, seems fun =) So, I went on their website just to check out some stuff. What do I find? A page that tells you how to unlock different guns. Nothing big. Just, Pre order the game to get a sniper, get the newletter for a light machine gun, downloading the demo for a sub-machine gun, and 2 other guns that haven’t told you how to get em. So, is this just an alternative to unlocking all of em when you reach the hightest status, or when you get the gold edition? I don’t know…

    • jimjam says:

i loved the demo and will be buying the game and all add ons as soon as they come out ,cost doesnt matter to me because i easily spend more than this on one night out and this will give months of entertainment hell please treble the price so when im online i dont have to play against poor people .ive been playing battlefield games for years on my voodoo pc and its a great franchise i just hope the online on the console version doesnt get spoiled by all the poor, big mac chomping dole fiddling special brew drinking hoodie wearing salad dodgers you usually find on console online play.

    • ecol says:

      An utterly ridiculous campaign.

If the retail version of the game is worth the money then buy it,
If you don’t want the DLC then don’t buy it.

Almost every industry in the world is based on market forces, let this dictate the success of this, rather than a campaign against something that has yet to be released, and on a decision that every gamer can make for themselves…

    • DC says:

the game itself sucks anyways. i played the demo because it was free and there is no way i am buying the game or the weapons

    • AndyC2D says:

What the hell. This is the best Battlefield game yet, and they’ve completely abandoned the system that made the game so great, PC. And now they’re given us “Battlefield Heroes” to compensate, I don’t want Heroes, I want Bad Company.

    • Ponysrule says:

Wow, it is really a great game. Shut the hell up about it! Once you get use to it, it is hella fun. Blowing up almost everything! COD:4 is crap compared to this game. COD:4 gets soooo boring after an hour. But BF:BC you get a different map everytime even on the same map. Everything changes, it’s so thrilling. The story mode is a little cheesy but get over it. It’s just a game and who cares if it’s cheesy its crazy fun. I defiantly recommend this game to anyone not sure to get it or not. You’ll get use to it, i promise.

    • Ponysrule says:

Oh and it seems your timing is of on the comments.

    • Ponysrule says:

Oh and it seems your timing is ofF* on the comments.

    • Lono says:

      The timing is just fine…

Guys, our boycott is over… We love the game… Simmer down and go post your flame bait on Neo GAF, if you absolutely have to whine about something…

    • curb47 says:

Funny… i just did a search for ‘BF:BC unlocks’ etc, and i found this stupid childish website encouraging gamers to throw their toys out of their prams. Just face the reality: It’s a GREAT GAME.
Anyway, I bet most of you who posted here have purchased the game anyway. I, for one, would rather boycott a website like ’sarcasticgamer’. If you want something to moan about, try going on to politcal or environmental issues… if you’re adult enough… which somehow, i doubt you are.

    • u all suck im gettin battle field bad company coz its a SICK GAME who gives what EA do just coz

    • REVELATION says:

Anyone still championing EA and DICE after all your ranks, guns & medals got reset? LMAO! EA does it again!

    • Loled says:

Curb, i Agree ha ha all i got out of that text is Waa Waa, people with spare money are gonna buy some crappy weapons

I bought the gold edition and the bonus weapons arent good anyway.

    • upchuck says:

      I Call BS on EA!

    • Jett says:

Down with EA….. Power ups to the people!!!!

    • anglea says:

I purchased the Gold edition. I’m not very happy extra weapon I received. What a waste of money. The game is kick ass. If you want the extra weapon just kill someone and pick it up. Don’t waste your on the upgrades. Besides Shotguns kick ass. Awesome game. Horrible upgrade.

    • BLACK MAN says:

You do realize all of these weapons can be obtained by simply reached a rank in the game?

Way to go out of control. And besides the weapons aren’t all that good.

    • nick10234 says:

@blackman that was added as the resolve to this. Origanly you had to get gold to get those weapons

    • ABC123 says:

You cry babies…. The weapons aren’t even that great, and you can also get them without paying.

    • all you fags says:

quit bitchin you bunch of retards. if you dont like it then dont buy it. go spend ur 60 bucks on more dildos

    • avmf8 says:

I just have to say this but it may not seem bad now but trust me this is just the begining. They just do gradual steps to get to there final goal. Soon substantial things will be done for games. I could see in the future game makers charging for patches to fix bugs with a game.

I could see stuff like you have trouble with a game working do to the game not liking the hardware or some other such thing they say there is a patch to fix it but you have to pay for it.

Look at how EA games is turning buying games into an expensive rental. Look at Mass Effect or Spore they are guaranteed to quit after a while forcing you to rebuy them or buy another game.

I have boycotted EA games but not for this game I was actually not even interested in this game I found the BF games boring to be honest.

But I boycott them for what they are doing for the market and the fact that EA games killed sports games for me.

But this download content stuff I don’t like where this is going. Trust me it won’t end with just charging 10 bucks for guns. yeah its a ripp off but it is more concerning what will be next after this.

Oh and they do cut things out of games to sell them. I had a spore developer admitt this to me when I asked about the planet sculpting tools. They said they are selling it later in an expansion.

Which makes this gun thing look like nothing in comparison. Still EA games needs to be boycotted because they are getting too big and we all know what happens when a company gets too big such as (cough)microsoft(cough) (cough)

People need to boycott ea games before they get to much control. Since when they get control you better believe that EA games will abuse it.

Anyone thinking this gun thing is not that bad mark my words its just the pink sky before the deadly storm.

    • sneakyJR says:

i bet you feel like a jackass now because 4 of those weapons are free to get the other 1 you have to at least have one other battlefield game and register it to collect that weapon….. what i dont get is your attitude you know that the weapons will give no upper hand so wtf u dont have to worry about getting owned unless u suck… who cares if they want more money thats what companys do, get over it

    • Capt B says:

I’m old enough to remember when EA first hit the scene. I liked their stuff then and I like it now.

But when I buy a game, I want t COMPLETE. Expnsion packs, etc. are fine. That gives me more game. But nickle-and-diming me on the original package? Nope. Won’t tolerate that at all.

Yes, they’re entitled to try anything to make more m oney… But it won’t be MY money they take to the bank.

I am not going to purchase anymore game from EA, they really sucks… It’s better to use a cracked one before you pay them
