The Witcher - Enhanced Edition

Back in November of ‘07, I spoke of my fondness for CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher. Since then, despite the incredible amount of AAA titles competing against it, The Witcher has proven itself not only to critics, but to gamers. That said, the game had a number of technical issues and voice over quirks that prevented it from being a true AAA blockbuster.

Find out how CD Projekt RED is going to “beef up” The Witcher after the jump!

Scoring a solid 81 on MetaCritic and selling over 600, 000 copies copies during its first three months on the market, The Witcher has already shown its appeal. What makes that all the more impressive is the fact that the title is CD Projekt RED’s debut title and The Witcher was a totally unknown brand released during the core of the ‘07 game explosion. The game is IGN’s “PC RPG of the Year” and the “Readers Choice Winner - Best RPG” over at GameSpot. For what its worth, it is also one of PMPB’s (hey thats me!) favorite titles of ‘07.

Rather than immediately moving on to a new project, CD Projekt RED is taking huge steps towards making The Witcher everything it was meant to be. The big boys over at EA and Activision could learn a thing or two from these upstart foreigners with their “crazy ideas” about polishing a title and responding to their fan bases criticisms.

Instead of releasing a whole slew of patches, CD Projekt RED has decided to release a new version of the game called “The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.” In a recent press release, Project Manager Maciej Szczesnik talked about what gamers can expect from this new version.

“The leading idea during the development of The Witcher Enhanced Edition is to create a game that is devoid of all of the major criticisms levied at the original release.”

A substantial amount of work is being done to make The Witcher: Enhanced Edition everything the developer and fans wished the initial version could have been. Loading times will be cut by 80%, stability on varied PC configurations will be drastically improved, and some fine tuning will increase precision and interactivity during combat.

The English language version will be almost completely redone and “over 50 new supporting character models will be added” so that players don’t keep running into the same NPC’s over and over again. The inventory panel is being redesigned and improved as well.

      Wow… that’s pretty cool.

Also sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you pronounce Maciej Szczesnik?
