Will Wright has been teasing gamers worse than a high school beauty queen with a tongue ring with the oft-delayed Spore. Finally, a firm release date has finally been set. After almost three years in development and multiple delays, gamers can finally check off September 7th as the day their homes will be Spore infested.

Spore has been confirmed for the DS, PC, Mac and mobile phones (why bother?) for the September 7th release date. No news yet on when the Wii version will be released. The Wii version may not be the only one to hit next-gen consoles though. EA reps are “considering all options in the console space.”

EA Games president Frank Gibeau has also hinted that Spore may not be free from additional costs. That’s the EA we all love to hate right there. Gibeau told analysts that the online mode of the game provided an “opportunity” for an “expanded digital revenue stream.” It remains to be seen if this will happen and if it does, what form it would take. Anything from in-game advertising, to micro-transactions, to subscription fees, are possible.

Hopefully Wright will protect his baby from blatant corporate gouging. Either way, Mrs. PMPB and I, along with thousands of other gamers are once again looking to our calendar for the glorious day when title will finally arrive. The simple fact my non-gaming girlfriend is stoked to play this game has made me one happy man (because I have two PC’s).
