Red Alert 3 - Finally

February 19th, 2008 · 8 Comments

After eight long years of “meh” CnC titles, a new installment to, in my opinion, the best Command & Conquer series of them all, has finally been announced. I’m talking of course about EA LA’s newest CnC game, Red Alert 3. Apparently the video game gods heard me screaming to the heavens (I do that a lot) as I played through CnC 3 with tears in my eyes.

Find out all the latest details after the jump!

These days, whenever someone mentions Command & Conquer, people think about CnC3: Tiberium Wars and the forthcoming expansion, Kane’s Wrath. EA LA calls CnC 3 an “action oriented” RTS, which to the hardcore RTS crowd is code for “we took the STRATEGY out of Real Time Strategy.” CnC 3 did very well, and among casual RTS gamers it is a must. Among the hardcore, picky RTS crowd (myself among them) CnC3 represents everything that went wrong with the CnC franchise and makes us scream to the heavens (see above statement) for a sequel to the Red Alert series, which was the last title to really (Generals came close) grab acclaim from both sides of the gaming table.

Despite also carrying the dubious “action oriented” qualifier, Red Alert 3 could very well be the game that restores my long dead passion for the CnC franchise. Featuring “a fully cooperative, story-driven campaign” and in keeping with RA2’s dark, Cold War inspired humor, Red Alert 3 has already re-sparked interest in a universe many RTS fans had feared would never return.

Since EA LA is the developer, and this IS a CnC game after all, we can expect lots of live-action cut scenes and heavy emphasis on eye candy. Which is cool, as long as the cut scenes are not better than the actual gameplay (CnC 3 fanboys know what I’m talking about, just admit it already).

If Westwood was still developing the series this would be a day one buy for me, but now i will wait and see if they do something like yuri´s revenge or something like tiberium wars, but still the co-op campaign sounds pretty awesome :D

I wish they would go back to the serious tones and Tiberium-universe tie-ins of the first Red Alert.

That is, quite frankly, the best RTS of all time in my opinion. And come on, CnC 3 was OK, even if they did go too casual.

Generals is not really CnC, it kinda sucked and the story was derivitive shiatake. OMFG TERRORISTS!!!!!!!1

I liked CnC3, loved Red Alert 2, haven’t played Red Alert 1, and Generals was one of the worst games of all time. Glad we’re done with it.

right now go and start calling out the game gaming gods for Dungeon Keeper 3
(EA bought bullfrog and basically stopped the game being made, for preventing a sequel to my favorite game There can be no forgiveness for EA)

“A Beta has been announced for later this year, unfortunately it requires you to purchase a copy of the limited edition version of CnC 3…”

Where did you get that? I went to the website and it says you need to buy Kane’s Wrath. That kind of sucks for me because I have the LE version of CnC 3 but I’m not going to buy Kane’s Wrath.

^ From GameSpot: “However, those who purchase the limited edition of Tiberium Wars or its Kane’s Wrath expansion pack will receive an invitation to the game’s beta test, which is scheduled for later this year.”

Oh my god they F|_|CKED UP the franchise so bad! Did you see those apocalypse tanks? They looked like child’s toys, and the buildings don’t look remotely as to those that were in ra2. What they hell! They messed up introducing Japan, making this a stupid game with no real antagonist focus. How horny are the game makers to make so many girls in leather armor? They’ll get killed in one shot. I have to agree that some ideas are good, such as building stuff on water teslaboat (although that was stolen from a mod of ra2), but overall i am GREATLY dissapointed in the game. And the thing that tops this cake of crap is the absence of Frank Klepacki. The soundtrack is what made the game so replayable, and you could never get bored of it, while the C&C 3 soundtrack was made in the same retarded Hollywood “heroic” style that is used in movies. Come on EA, dump the project and make a real Westwood title!
