PSP – More for less

After stumbling like a 4 year old who got into daddy’s liquor cabinet, since the PSP first came out, Sony seems to have shaken off their kiddy hangover and started making some savvy business decisions. On the heels of November’s announcement that the PS3 development tools cost would be cut by almost 50%, Sony passed on the same major savings to the PSP’s tool set and support fees.

Find out what this could mean after the jump!

In theory, this is a great idea. Basically, the costs associated with developing a new PSP title decreases  and opens the doors for smaller studios to make a name for themselves.

Although there are some fantastic PSP titles set to be released in ‘08, there aren’t too many of them. In fact, at this point anyway, there are still months that have nothing of any merit coming out for the PSP at all.

Right now, I’m calling it a good thing. If this price drop results in scores of low quality, crappy kids games (I’m looking at you Golden Compass and TMNT) then my opinion may change. On the other hand, if more of the big studios start focusing on the PSP now that it costs half as much for the tools and we see more AAA (I hope) titles like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and God of War: Chains of Olympus then I will be one happy “Sony-fanboy in the making.”

@ GAM: I kind of agree with you but if you have a fat psp they already left you behind with some of the add-ons like skype.

I like the psp but you can hack it and make it everything you want, I’ve read you can even hack it and get the games online for free! so sony is losing some money out of this. It’s in this case that you can see why Nintendo wanted to join sony, they have the technology but they just don’t know how to get all of that into gaming.

I’d like to buy a psp but I just don’t feel that into it, graphics are really cool and some (notice the word “some”) games I’d love to have.

      But if i wanted a cell phone/mp3 player/internet browser/picture gallery… I’d get a really cool cell phone
