With hype about the big announcements to be made at this years Game Developers Conference growing at a geometric rate, Sarcastic Gamer is pleased to announce that we have actually managed to scoop our big money peers in the media. Thanks to a dedicated SG fan, who just so happens to work in Redmond, Washington for a little known company called Microsoft, we are the first to bring the world news about Microsoft’s latest endeavor.
Find out what MS’s big announcement is at this year’s GDC, after the jump!
Our dedicated SG informant, who shall remain nameless for the time being (no need to give MS a target), has confirmed that yes in fact, Microsoft IS creating a hand held gaming console. Preliminarily dubbed ‘The X2′, the newest portable console to enter the market will follow the basic format the PSP already uses but with some obvious differences. Word is, that like the PSP, the X2 will be, for all intents and purposes, an original Xbox in portable form, though with a higher graphics potential.
Zing!
Unfortunately, recent troubles (see above) have forced the time table for the X2 forward dramatically. Our source informs us that top Microsoft execs were practically screaming to the heavens for ‘anything’ positive to say at the GDC to counteract their lack of something reassuring to say to customers in regards to RRoD (sorry Australia) and XBL. Because of this rush on production, several corners have been cut to attempt to create a working demo model before the GDC begins at the end of February.

To date, all demo models have proven inviable. Technicians are apparently scratching their heads as a flashing red light appears again and again on the new portable, leaving techs asking the question “I can’t stop this from happening on the 360, how the hell am I supposed to stop it on this thing?!” Another major hurdle is Microsoft’s soon to be (they hope) praised X2 online connectivity. Unfortunately its use of the original XBL service (and the troubles therein) has not allowed them to test a damn thing.
Find out all the gritty details about the X2 and who is building it on the next page.

oh how i wish ther was some incentive for me to buy a portable console. ms coming out with a portable system would be interesting to say the least.
Allthought traditioally Nintendo i would purchase a microsoft handheld, but if they had the cheek to charge online for a handheld they can jog on
Lol. Fiction Friday. That picture of the “X2″ looks doctored…and it looks basically like some xbox wallpaper in the middle of a stretched controller.
Hilarious, though!
Good one, Mr. PolarBear. Quite funny.
If someone were to believe this entire article, the fact that it’s false would be clear when the Microsoft Exec at the end actually says something about their product!
Zing!
That would be cool if it were true!:D
wow until i read the comments i thought this was real …… i hate you guys now
I don’t even want to imagine how heavy this thing will be if it’s based on the original Xbox…
This will never work, Microsoft’s DRM will screw you in the end so you can’t ever play offline.
i couldnt see an xbox portable system being any diffrent than the psp
I would like to see a low price MS portable, One that simply plays my FREAKING ARCADE GAMES!
I am not going to put Cod4 down to play Undertow, anymore than I would sell my car and buy a horse, the quality is not comparable, but for the amount of time i play portable games, they would be fine.
looks cool but most likely plays like Sh*t
PMPB, you kinda forgot to mention the 3,5″ 10GB harddrive and full size DVD drive they’re stuffing in… yet it will have killer trigger buttons and support 720p
….. Anyway, what’s the deal with all the MS hate there PMPB?
I came up with this, you just beefed it up. look up my name in the forum search (janzantinga) it was posted under a forum by rothbart.
yes, BUT are they going to have x box live? if they don’t put that in it would be pointless and would not take up the x box name
