This demo put this game squarely on my map. Gorgeous visuals, interesting weapons and story shoved this game to the forefront of my Gamefly queue. Well, it’s out today. Let’s see what everybody else thought of it.

After the jump.

A quick check of the Metacritic score reveals a solid 84, although this is only based on about 6 reviews. The only “bad” review coming from Austrailian reviewers with Gameplayer.com, who gave the game a 70.

Most of the reviews note the great visuals, including the ridiculous visual similarity between Dante and newcomer, Nero. All enjoyed the boss fights. All enjoyed the new moves employed by Nero… Hmm, so far, so good.

Universally, almost all of the review despise the unusually high amount of backtracking found in the game. There’s complaints about “padding” in a few sections of the game. A few reviews also point out that they had a number of occasions where they wandered around, not knowing what the hell to do next. Hmmm, are these guys Newbs, or do we have a problem here, Houston?

Well, with a Metacritic score that high, this game is at least worth a rental. I mean, there’s only so many shooters you can play… right? Oh well, it’s about time I get back to Call of Duty4.

Nooooooooo now I’m gonna have to check out the full version of the game :/ The demo was horrible, but with an average score of 84 I guess the final product was polished quite a bit…

OK! I’m upset that I had to postpone my COD4 to give-it-a-try with Devil May Cry, and I know why he’s crying, this game is garbAAAAgh! I understand everyone has their likes, I’m cool with that. But I was readying myself for some Ninja Gaiden like kung-foolery… I was wrong, so very wrong. The visuals not bad, the gameplay was like trying to maneuver a drunk Japanese emo kid through a very elaborate obstacle course. The cameras were weird, somewhat Resident evil, but worse because every time it changed, it seemed to do so in a way that was a slap in the face. The graphics were cool, but it only made me think of Ninja G2 and how much more cool it would be.
Anyhow, I know why the Devil Cried, he played this game.

The visuals “not bad” They rival (in some areas) games like Gears of -fricken- War.

Sure, one’s opinion on the demo is one’s opinion, but just because you were born and raised on fps, and can’t get into the style of gameplay (no it isn’t Ninja Gaidan. Duh), that does not a garbage game make.

Don’t trash it because you aren’t Into it. I don’t like country music, but you don’t hear ME bashing the songs because of that.

It is too bad that DMC 4 isn’t online enabled, Because then i’d be able to celebrate that I wouldn’t have to deal with you.

Wow! Hey, just fun a games here… don’t get too fanboy, I enjoy a good killing on games that I enjoy, it makes it more interesting. But,,, come on… no need to cry over a game with “Cry” in the title. And your retort I’d like to name to “God may Laugh”. Relax! =) Threatening to not play with me is something I might have used against a neighborhood friend back when I was 8. Lastly, No Online mode, damn, maybe they should port it over to the TurboGrafx 16.

I agree. I like the reviews review on sarcasticgamer.com

But a thing I must add to the critics and I don’t know if this is on the latest installment of the franchise, the camera at some points is frustrating, and I listened to the gametrailers review and they feel the same way, I was playng DMC3 last night and I had forgotten how sometimes you don’t even see what the hell you are shooting at, so did they solve that?

Yep there is such problems… Sometimes there is absolutely no point of what doing next…. Plus damn crazy camera…

Yeah… I WAS going to buy this game, but the more I thought about how the demo was, the more I realized that this kind of game really doesn’t seem like much of a gaming experience; feels more like something you could pop a couple of quarters in at the arcade and play. I’ll probably give it a rent, though…

@clstirens: Dude, stop smoking crack so you can write a coherent comment that I could at least respond too…

Are you trying to say I don’t like Ninja Gaiden or something? Good gracious. You. Make. No. Sense.

      fan boys sicken me

    • 11 ummm, Yeah... // Feb 5, 2008 at 11:49 pm

@Lono: Dude, it makes plenty of sense, but let me sum it up for you. Cisterin is accusing ZeBus of bias due to the fact that he didn’t like the game because he’s not into the combo-heavy, over-the-top style of it. ZeBus had set a Ninja Gaiden standard for the game, which, when not met, he used to bash DMC4, comparing it to NG2. Did you understand that? He wasn’t even talking to you.

      P.S. - I don’t smoke crack, and I’m 15.

P.S.S. - I have insomnia, so don’t bash me because I’m on at 12:48 AM on a school night writing comments on your website.

ah yes you are correct sir. sorry clstirens…

Goddamn… I’m no fan of Devil May Cry (although it was the first game I got with my PS2), but I can’t wait for this. Backtracking, padding and wandering around not knowing what to do next are Devil May Cry staples, though.
