One of the most highly anticipated releases of the year is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots. Konami knows this, and they want us to get all excited about the release. So, they cooked up a play that makes little sense, or total sense.
You be the judge.
Konami has announced that the Metal Gear Solid Essentials Collection will be coming to North America. The collection will include the PS1 version of Metal Gear Solid and the director’s cut’s of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance for the PS2. It will retail for $29.99, which is a pretty good deal, kind of.
The thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that the PS3 has long since dropped backwards compatibility. Unless you are one of the gamers that has one, how does this help you?
If you have a PS2, this is an awesome deal. Although, You’d think for such an occasion they would have ported over Twin Snakes, the MGS1 remake, from the Game Cube, instead of making you play a game that’s two generations old.
In the end, this isn’t meant to get PS3 owners to get excited about MGS4 at all. They’re foaming at the mouth for this blockbuster title to come out. It seems like it’s meant to excite PS2 owners into buying a PS3.
Smells like a conspiracy to me, but hell it’s so brilliant, it just might work.

Cool. I still have all the old systems so it works for me. I would only get this for the PS1 MGS though.as its the only one I can’t actually find.

I don’t care what anyone says this is a great move. What better way to built hype for no. #4 than by re-releasing the classic titles at an affordable price. I mean, seriously, have you seen what the classic MGS games go for used?

@clstirens
Yes it is, I noticed that too, but the names are so simmilar that it’s an excusable mistake.
