The day has finally arrived, Stardock’s newest gem, Sins of a Solar Empire, hits store shelves today. I know my local EB Games will be my very first stop on the way home from work tonight. Breathing (I hope) new life into the space RTS genre with Stardocks always fantastic AI and some amazing looking combat, Sins may be just the fix for those of us who long for the glory days of titles like Hegemonia: Legions of Iron and Imperium Galactica.

Check out the trailer and some impressive details after the jump!

Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m a blatant Stardock fanboy. I absolutely love this publisher. My experiences with their beta testing and the superb job they’ve done with the Galactic Civilization series have more than earned my admiration. Sins of a Solar Empire has been on my radar for a long time, and for good reason.

The title was developed by IronClad Games and so far, it looks like they’ve built a game to finally claim the long-empty space RTS throne. The game supports tons of planets and solar systems to explore and control. The ships, planets, stars and more, are all gloriously textured ,whether you’re zoomed out to a tactical level, or zoomed right into the action. You can also customize your Capital ships and wage combat among some of the biggest maps I have ever seen in a game.

If you love playing online as much as I do, you’re in for a real treat with this title. Not only can you create maps that will (depending on size) take you weeks if not longer to finish, you can save your online games and return to them at a later time. Sort of like chess by mail, only cooler. Now you and your buddy can wage war over the course of a few months, colonizing worlds, skirmishing for resources and preparing your invasion forces.
