Today’s gaming world is very different compared to the one I remember from 18 years ago, when I took my initial plunge into the land of video games. Sure consoles existed back then, but they paled in comparison to what the PC had to offer. These days, consoles reign supreme and while I still consider the PC my platform of choice, even I have to concede that PC gamers have become a niche market, constantly on the defensive.
Find out how an unlikely Alliance between the biggest names in the industry is planning to finally step up and defend the birth place of video games after the jump!
It seems I can’t even say “PC” these days without having to defend myself (back off console fanboys I know Kung-Fu!). Thanks to the Judas popularity of consoles and the rampant piracy going on within the PC gaming market, a whole new wave of “PC gaming is dying” doomsayers have appeared. Of course PC gaming has been “dying” for over 20 years now, and will NEVER (you hear me? NEVER!) die, it HAS become a small market with some major problems. I mean, there are even RTS games making appearances on consoles now.
Is nothing sacred?
In what I consider to be the biggest news in PC gaming for the last decade, almost every big name in the gaming industry has come together to defend the video game mother country. Calling themselves “The PC Gaming Alliance,” this super group contains members from all facets of the gaming industry. Acer/Gateway, Dell/Alienware, Intel, AMD/ATI, Nvidia, Razer, Epic Games, Activision and Microsoft are now united in making PC gaming a priority again.
The first group of its kind, the PCGA is a nonprofit organization committed to “driving coordinated marketing and promotion of PC gaming…and creating forums for member companies to cooperate on solutions to challenges facing the PC gaming industry, such as hardware requirements and anti-piracy.”
“This collaboration will provide developers and publishers with a champion for consistent demographics, hardware adoption, and revenue measurement and reporting,” said David Cole of the research firm DFC Intelligence in a statement. “An authoritative source of information on the PC as a gaming platform will serve as an invaluable catalyst for growing the market and improving the consumers’ PC gaming experience.”
I’m not ashamed to say I had tears of joy in my eyes when I read the news. I was never afraid that PC gaming would die, but constantly fighting back against the overwhelming hordes of console mad gamers, with only my small cadre of loyal PC fanatics backing me up, was starting to tax even my superhuman resolve. February 20th should be a worldwide holiday from now on!

Personally, the only reason I don’t use my PC as my main gaming station is the costs to keep my PC updated with the times.
When i buy a console I know that I’ll be able to play every game made for that system until i die or it breaks.
The PC is different, the best ones are the ones that a custom made, and the parts to build a solid PC are fairly expensive when compared to a console. Also, a “good” PC will last you 1-2 years if you intend on plays top of the line games.

A good PC can actually last 3-5 years (of gaming). You just don’t crank the visual settings as high starting on the 3rd year or so. Speaking from personal experience, people seriously need to cut on the “PeeCee too ekspansiv, BAAAAWWW” crap.
Some kind of games suit consoles better, some the PC better (RTS, FPS). So yeah, the PC gaming needs to stay alive.

PC is cheap; buy the hardware and all of the games are free… Wait, that isn’t how it’s supposed to work?
