With the end of 2007 comes the start of 2008 and a new year of video games for Sony. While there are lots of sequels of big name titles coming out like Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid for the PS3, there are also new services and niche titles like Flower and Playstation Home. Here are four of my most anticipated games for the PS3, in 2008.
SOCOM: Confrontation
T
he new SOCOM is coming and this time, there’s no ridiculous subtitles. (I’m looking at you SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2) What can we actually expect from the new shooter? Well, we’ve been promised 32 player online with clan support, brand new maps (this is my surprised face), 95% destructible environments and customizable weapons like in SOCOM 3.
This game is not being developed by Zipper Interactive, but by Slant Six, who are also developing SOCOM: Tactical Strike for the PSP. The interesting thing about this iteration of the series is that it’s online only. The game will let you create and customize your own character with army gear, while clans will be able to have their own uniform. The game seems like it has the potential to be a lot of fun, but I’m sure it won’t deviate too far from the original formula, just like the previous seven games (without forgetting SOCOM: Mobile Recon, of course), but this isn’t too much of a bad thing considering how much I like the SOCOM series and how well it executes what it sets out to achieve, most of the time. The PS3 could do with a great online shooter and hopefully this will be it.
Looks like it will be available as a download, through PSN, or in a nice shiny box. The game is due to be released on June 15th 2008, so you better get prepared for some up close and personal, or long range and impersonal, shooting action.
SIDE NOTE: In last episode of the Sarcastic Gamer Podcast (Episode 28) we discussed several issues related to the PS3 that you might find interesting. The show is always an easy 30 minutes and is one of the best-produced gaming podcasts anywhere. If you have a moment, turn it on now and listen while you surf! HERE’S THE LINK TO OUR LATEST EPISODE or just play it with this nifty player (below).

underappreciated? More like, undera - who gives a crap,,,
Flower? Are you serious? lets skip to my frickin lou and pick posies from the ground like a bunch of fruit cakes while giggling like school girls in front of our $500 PS3… tee hee…
Socom isnt going to match RB6 Vegas2 so you can skip that one…
Killzone has some potential…
and PSHome isnt really underappreciated, its just one of those Duke Nukem Forever scenario where it talks all this smack and comes out 10 years and 23 platforms later…
PS3 is still in need of that Flagship game to run the helm… 360 has Halo 3 and Gears of War… When Halo jesus FINALLY falls off the face of the earth, Gears of War is going to run the show…
PS3…. not so much…

Erm… Killzone, Home, SOCOM? I’m not convinced you know the meaning of the word(s) “under appreciated”… (which is two words or hyphenated, BTW)

SOCOM has been a great title for the ps. i think that makes it a system seller. tons of people still play socom on ps2 so it should be a good game

If you replace Killzone 2 and Home with Infamous (even though it’s uncertain when it will be released) and Motorstorm 2, I would call this list perfect.

I agree with that list except maybe for Flora but that is only because there isn’t really much about so I don’t see anything to look forward to yet. Killzone and SOCOM both show potential and could both be the killer titles which are badly needed in the PS3 library.

i think all of those are great titles, except for flower.
hmmm..but it would be funny if killzone 2 happens to be a halo killer.

why does when any games comes out for the ps3 , all you [censored] can say is gears and halo…seriously there are 100 milliion gamers out there who can give a rats ass about halo or gears..probably great games but come on .

Four Underappreciated PS3 Titles of 2008 | Eplayr.com…
\r\nThe title says it all. A nice look at some great games that seem to be flying…

first off, how is Killzone 2 or Home under appreciated? Seriously everyone is talking about them like crazy. Flower is hard to appreciate when no one knows anything about it except that video of the pedal falling. And if we’re listing games that no one knows anything about you might as well throw in Heavy Rain.
Honestly this is a better list:
Infamous
8 Days
Getaway 3
White Knight Chronicles

Andyg, you are either a jealous 360 fan or you are 5. IQ or age, pick one. You obviously know nothing about the SOCOM series and it’s fanbase.
SOCOM will steamroll Vegas like it wasn’t even there. Vegas has walked away from what R6 fans want and are lost off in the woods by themselves. It’s a good thing because they don’t want to be around for the ass whipping SOCOM will hand out.

Nice list and first article, hope you do more stuff. Cannot wait for SOCOM! Am i the only one that is also looking forward to flower, I know theres not much known about it but I liked flow.

horrible list. killzone 2 is extremly antisipated. haze should b somwhere on here that game has so much potential

@andyg8180: At least the PS3 isn’t trying to proclaim solely FPS games as its killer apps. And RB6V2 is just the first one all over again, except with a different team. Which is lame.
I still think Killzone 2 still has it and could well be an awesome game. As for Home, I just hope Sony hurry up!

Killzone 2 will be good if it is nothing like killzone 1

Socom and Killzone fan all the way, ive been waiting for killzone 2 forever since i saw the ending to the 1st 1 i knew there would be a next lol and socom, i hope this goes back to a gameplay like Socom 2, i think the rest have gone off on the reality crap too far like walking 1 mile per year when you use a big gun
other then those 2 “Home” sounds kinda cool but im curious about the size of memory thatll use, anyone know? and prices have they said anything about whats the costs of items?
16 BlacKRaiN_666 // Feb 22, 2008 at 9:12 am
killzone 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games for ps3 so im not really %100 sure why its on this list i think 8 days and haze should be on here cuz i know they will be good but hardly anyone mentions them.
as for home i think it will be really cool and ive been looking forward to it. the only thing i will spend actual money on is a big screen tv that covers the whole wall for entertainment then just fill my room with other free crap.
the name is used here is also my psn id so look me up if ur smart enough to see how much better the ps3 is than 360 and have one, and play online of course.

Socom will put PS3 on the map end of story. I have read so many boards where people are just waiting for Socom to come out so they can have an excuse to go out and buy a PS3.
I can’t wait for socom!!
