* Editor’s Note: Animathias is a new contributor to Sarcastic Gamer and a Call of Duty 4 Expert. I’ve asked Animathias to give me his tips on how to take your game to the next level in the best multiplayer experience anywhere: Call of Duty 4.
This is the third installment in our Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Guide Series. You can check out the Newbie Guide HERE, and the Intermediate Player’s Guide HERE.
Think you’re a big boy? You think that just because you’ve gotten a few headshots through a wall, that you’re some kind of a hotshot?
Wrong.
You may have gotten past the Newbie stage, and dominated your way through the Intermediate guide. That doesn’t mean you’re ready for what’s next. I, the Call of Duty 4 Grim Reaper will give you the tips and tricks to take your game to the next level.
Let’s do this, Marines.
Welcome to the late game. You’ve made it to level 32 and you’ve laid waste to countless people to get there. Don’t get comfortable just yet. This is where the game really opens up to you. You can either take the safe route you’ve used to get this far, or you can develop additional strategies to get the drop on your enemies and take that next step.
We’ll start with the perks and weapons you’ll be unlocking during these last few levels.
Level 37 - Here you’ll be granted use of the wonderful G36C Assault Rifle. For many, this is the M16’s replacement. It can take your foe down as quickly as an M16, but it also sports a full auto shot to mow down the line of enemies coming out of a door. It doesn’t fire the three shot burst as fast or as accurately as the M16, but the full auto may be just what you need when your defending B on Countdown, when the sh!t hits the fan.
The weapon has decent to great iron-sights, making it a killer when you combine it with the grenade launcher. I suggest obtaining the Red Dot Scope (RDS) as soon as possible for this bad boy. The silencer and ACOG scopes are not recommended. With Stopping Power and the RDS, you’ll soon forget about the dominant M16. (until you get killed by it again.)

This is not an ‘expert’ guide. It is a waste of your time.
I could talk for days about strategies to suit playing styles.
I could talk for days about what styles and guns work well on what maps.
I could talk for days about how to recognize enemy stratagies and tactics, and how you can make in-game adjustments to counter your enemies.
I hope no one was paid for this pathetic attempt at an ‘expert guide’.
You talk alot of smack but what you got???? Nothing.. Thats what I thought!
Punch, you are a retard.
Don’t see that you have anything better to offer so me reading your post was a waste of my time.
Okay, couple of things.
I don’t care what anyone says, i’m fine using a silenced MP5 with stopping power on any map.
All you faggots that say skip Bog are gay. That’s the only map I use a different weapon on, an M16 with a RDS and Stopping Power, and I tear up.
Sniping is for pussies. Haven’t used a sniper rifle in a single match since the day I got the game. And i’m doing just fine without them.
i have to disagree with all the guys above because i think it was a great guide. i used to totally suck at CoD4 but ive read this and now i’m still pretty bad but my total kills and deaths are almost equal now!.. thanks lono and animathias.
The whole point of Call of Duty 4 is to be different in your own way. I’ve seen golden crosses with the mp5 who pwned.
Anyways, you didn’t mention anything about cage match(where you can take turns getting hits for challenges if you have a mic) or Team Tactical(the fastest way of ranking up probably). The M16 has taught me a lot of stuff mostly accuracy and patience. I killed an enemy accross the map of Countdown(Literally) with some elevation and the M16 red dot scope.
I just started playing CoD4 on Saturday. I am not new to FPS or Online gaming, however I found this very helpful. In the 7ish hours I have played I am currently level 19.
Realizing I needed to dive in deeper to my weapons selection I did some searching. Now I have something to strive for (aside from unlocking the content) and a focus.
Thanks for the guide. d(^_^)
It’s a guide. Guide does not mean “Do exactly this or else you suck.”
And anyone that says someone’s a fag or noob for using some weapon or perk in the game obviously needs to figure out how to stop getting killed by that guy. I hate getting killed by random grenade tossing but I learned that I can do it too. A kill is a kill. Nobody plays FPS to learn tactics and strategies for the real world. We play for kills. Top spot on the board. You want to learn tactics and strategies for real world war, join the military. They’re always looking to teach.
And I don’t watch the Kill Cam to see where the guy that killed me was. I watch because some of the ways I die are pretty damn funny. Nothing better than my body flying into the air from a direct hit to the chest by an RPG. That is comedy.
Ive read several times about overkill being mainly a sniper’s perk. My most successful class used the W1014 shotgun with grip as primary, the G36 with red dot as secondary and the overkill/ dead silence perks. With this setup I could drop targets with the G36 at medium/long ranges and if i wanted to clear out a building or get close, the shotgun/knife combo did the trick. It went far beyond the realm of ownage…which ultimately was its downfall. It was TOO good..game got boring so i changed it up after i got the golden shotty.
As far as stopping power being a standard, use for all perk…its a good perk, very useful however people grow way too dependent on it. If you truly want to open yourself up to new tactics, experiances and levels of gameplay, practice without it. Use the other perks available. then when you get uber good without it, think of what you could do when you decide to go back to it, if you decide to.
And as for the noob tube, P90, spraying and praying and Juggernaught. I use the P90 once in awhile, its a good gun to use. Nothing nooby about it. If you’re killed by it, then dont be the noob getting killed. Noob tube…well its called the noob tube for a reason. Ive used it only once and found it very distasteful. Its way too easy (at least for me) to kill someone with it. Aim in general direction of target and fire. It takes more skill to consistanly kill with bullets than a noob tube, much more.
Ive heard several people whining about getting killed because of spray and pray. Well, its a cute name but its actually called hip-firing which is legitimate and not “nooby.” Some guns simply call for hip-fire (P90 anyone?
And as for the infamous juggernaught perk…this one is iffy. In my own opinion, while a person using it can be a slight annoyance, they can still be taken down nonetheless. i do it without using stopping power all the time. Yet i hear time and time again people flipping out over someone using it..even if that person wasnt lol.
The only real “noobs” are those who cry, whine, moan, complain and insult another simply because of the gun or perk they use. I was called a noob in a game for killing a guy with an M9 over and over! Really, if you cant handle the heat of this game, go play monopoly with your parents.
So many haters here. look guys if you getting beat down with the noob tube or the people doing hip fires, stop whining coz your just pissed you cant do crap about it so suck it up and pay them back.
if you think you’re better than the players with what you call “noob style” then why are you getting fragged anyway? coz you think your gonna look cool if your doing it the hard way with all your sophisticated manners. well guess what, you’re just making things complicated on yourself.
It doesnt matter if you kill with a swift slash of a knife or a end to end map snipe. a frag is a frag. and we all have our own ways of doing it so stop whining and live with it. zzzzzzzzz
For me, the thing I don’t like about COD4 is that it lacks goals to strive for. This isn’t true the first time or two through the ranks. It is fun to upgrade weapons and switch up strategy and and classes. However, on your third time through or so it gets redundant. I think it is boring to complete the same challenges and use the same guns that you really don’t even like just to change it up. And I really don’t think a golden gun is cool, especially with how much time it requires achieve.
The one thing Halo 3 had which COD doesn’t was the ranking system. It was an endless battle to increase your rank, unless you are one of the few to achieve 50. Some days you would team up with a few good players and strive to rank up. I enjoyed that like a lot of others. You always could go higher and get better. What used to anger me was in team slayer you would get punished for loosing and it may not have been your fault.
Thats why initially I likes Call of Duty – you rank up regardless the outcome of the match. But the for that very reason I hate it now because its BORING! Anybody can get through the ranks if you play enough, the ranks mean zip. The best around are the best (rank wise) in large part because they invest obscene amounts of time playing.
That rank system was how you measured yourself against others in Halo and it was accurate. Also because there is no penalty for loosing in COD, you get a lot of kids that f**k around and team kill. It ruins the experience and if your not absolutely in love with the game, it leads to boredom after 6 months of owning it.
Jdowdall you rally are a pr**k man
Valetudo is right everyone has there one style, if you don’t like someons its probably cos there doing better than you
Use and gun. Any perk. Mix it up. Using 1 gun for a straight 150 kill is broing. Use a new gun every round. Diffrent perks. I used 2 use m16 only with rds, bandollier, stopping power, and steady aim or deep impact.
But now I use any gun when ever. (Except the mp44. Tht guns can blow me)
M14 you need a rds tho cuz iron sight stink. I can rack up a good 20 kills every game and keep my k/d over 1.35. Im happy and I have fun.
Deal with it.
X GREAT – I do deal with it. I do switch up guns a lot as well as perks. I have used all of them. I am not a noob bitching here, I have a decent kd ratio 1.15. I still enjoy it to a certain extent. I just wish that rank meant more in this game.
I just really enjoyed how players tended to take Halo team matches more seriously because of the implication on your rank. You can’t play against the best if your rank is low. Sure you would have a dumbass teammate here and there but if you’re good, you would eventually rank up. Sooner or later and you would play against tougher opponents because the cream always rises to the top.
I think COD has better gameplay and I love the custom weapons but I really miss the slightly more serious approach that most people took to team slayer in Halo thats all. COD for the most part is a bunch of people out for themselves, even in team matches. I realize that may be all some players are looking for but not me. Just throwing it out there to see if anyone agrees
1. Shoot
2. Kill
3. Repeat
I’m pretty tired of people whining.
If pwned, devise new tactic.
This is what’s great about this game. One can use so many different tactics and styles.
And if you’re not able to counter a tactic… tough luck!
i just got Call of Duty 4. i also just got my PS3 and online PS3. i found that m16 sucks for me. i love the control of your gun, weather it’s a full magazine or just a few bursts i think it’s a lot more handy in a tight situation. also AK47 rules. free for all i own. and im new i rank quickly using the ak47 i have red tiger aswell. i am on rank 48 and i can’t wait for the barret. i have red tiger on my m4 i dont use the m4 much, i did after i finished off the AK47 but i have switched back. AK47 with silencer, bandoiler, stopping power and martydom or last stand with a deagle, im almost undeatable. i avverage around 15 kills a game, i mainly play free for all and team deathmatch. i would love if somoene tryed to add me, my name is ss3nick no space and no captials. i aslo find with a new gun i own so i aim to get new guns or go back to old ones alot. and no guns are bad in the game, what your comfortable with is what you use.
xenodius in april is spot-on what i use, G3 = brilliant m21 i like
and i use skorpion or the uzi with silencer, ONLY NOOBS PUT RDS ON MP5 lol, btw if you want a tornemant team get Captain_Knorne as a m8 on cod4 ps3 ! ive just created the account and want to get a 4 ratio rather han my old 2.8
Firstly i have to say i agree with Blink, why add Martyrdom to the game? The whole point of the game is to have competitive fun and become more skilled. I also enjoy the fact that the game is for the most part pretty realistic apart from this perk. (And one other thing which i will come to). I mean really, what soldier would have the time between a bullet deadening his brain tissue and the electrical nerve signals being sent to his limbs to pull the frickin pin out of a frag! Just don’t think its right to encourage using a tactic whichs requires absolutely input from the player whatsoever. I mean i can get over people using the noob tube because at least it requires them to aim and push a button but really if ur gonna give martyrdom to anyone give to the Middle Eatern Opfor only. The other thing which has bugged about all these types of games since my days playing BF2 on PC – Why oh god why can UAV’s pick up people who are inside buildings, or camo’d snipers who are totally still?? It just doesnt make sense. As for the guide itself, i’d have disagree with those of who who say it’s useless. Sure it aint the best guide and may not suit everyones play style but does give a good insight to new players who may be struggling to get to grips with the multitude of options and combonations of the multiplayer. The intermediate guide helped me a little and gave me some fresh ideas although i feel the expert guide is a little overstated. If your gonna write an expert guide it should be a lot longer than 5 pages and with input from a lot more expert players.
By the way, Hardcore mode rocks. If anyone loved playing Americas Army on PC then this mode is for you.
look if its all round killing you want to do use the mp5 silenced stopping power steady aim bandolier it get the job done on any game mode you want to play and with a deagle this thing kicks ass oh and if you want to own with a deagle usse stopping power and deep impact for a one shot kill thanks
you call it an expert guide but you recommend the red dot sight for an assault rifle? yikes, well i don’t want to sound too unappreciative of all the free kills i get
right at the end of expert guide you said you got like 73:10 on countdown… well snap lol
domination on groundwar with big maps get the most kills of your good
I love how some people posting get so bent out of shape over there favorite guns being called noobish or get defensive of the perks that they like.
Look people, it’s galled a “game” for a reason: it’s supposed to be fun, not to have a cow and start calling everyone a mother-f’er.
If you don’t like this guide, don’t read it. From the comments, it seems to have helped out those who needed help. It seems that the only people complaining about it are those who are already comfortable with their own set-ups and strategies, or those who think they’re hardcore…
The bottom line is that you should play to have fun. I personally think that if it’s in the game and usable, it cannot be called noobish. The developers put it in for a reason.
On another note, I thought this guide suits those who need help, so great job on it.
As for what I play and use:
Fav. Modes:
Mercenary Team Death Match
M4 with ACOG Scope
Brandolier
Stopping Power
Extreme Conditioning
Smoke ‘nade
Deagle
Hardcore Team Deathmatch
MP5 w/ Silencer
Bomb Squad (other team really enjoys using claymores)
UAV Jammer
Dead Silence
Smoke ‘nade
PS: after my rant, if you feel it necessary to keep calling people “noobs,” take a long hard look at yourself…
I stumbled upon this guide and I thought “great, maybe this will give me the extra edge” unfortunately I was completely wrong. If you’ve played this game for more than a few hours then all
the ‘information’ in this guide is useless. I guess I’m much better than I thought whereas this guide just sucks! Play the game and you’ll learn much more than this guy will ever tell you.
I totally agress with Chris U’5 I have read alot of yup yup useless advises. I agree with some of it because I use some of that tactics depending on which map and which game. But my advise for all you cod4 lovers is to get to know the maps really well and find out which guns and perks work best for you. Otherwise you will find your getting killed all the time and wondering how the f*ck did that happen.
I agree and disagree with many of the comments that i have read. I use the M4 at long range (because im not that great with a sniper rifle), I have the claymores on so no one can sneak up on me and i have juggernaut on so i can survive more damage when i go into last stand. I have the Red Dot Scope (RDS) i dont prefer the ACOG its to close to a sniper, i leave that up to my other clan members.
I Don’t think that any gun is over powered or under powerd. It just depend on how you use them.
Wow…
You people really do have a lot to say about all the guns except shotguns… Seriously people, try them out. You might actually like them.
For those of you wo care the W2000 has the better power and longer range while the m1014 has the firerate. Both good guns. I prefer the W2000 though. If you’re good at taking a quick shot, one hit kills. Also, just as a clarifier so as not to leave the other SG out, when useing a shotgun, after a while you notice that you usually don’t need a second shot. Makes the fireing rate a little useless.
P.S. if you use stoping power on a shotgun it will increase the range at which you can one hit kill someone (not the overall range though)
wow… seems like every one has something to say… sure its an OK guide and it gave me some ideas… but really i have to say the comments are wats helpfull… any one who wants to play my gamer tag is my name and this is my stratagy…. its so simple anyone can understand it.. 1. Stay alive 2. Move around using all cover possible 3. Shoot 4. Kill 5. Repeat 6. Last but not least COMMUNICATE
what the …… M16 and G36C are good but the AK-47 and the MP5 are the best . what a player would ask more the a perfect automatic weapon and the best silencer/balanced sub machine gun I while using those tow weapons have taken more than 35000 kills and 2500 head shots . you can also use an MP5 with a sniper as a second weapon or an AK with an M18 ….. tell me your credits and I will be happy to answer you/accept your credits and put some improvements . by the way THE STEADY AIM PERK is pretty god with all automatic weapons
the M16 is by far the best gun on the game if you get good with it. i use M16 w/ red dot, 3 stuns, stopping power and steady aim. this class is amazing for every scenario. the steady aim can allow you to take down any automatic noob who gets close. red dot eliminates everything afar (including snipers). the stopping power allows you to kill anybody with one burst as long as you hit them chest up, (which all goood players should be doing). and the 3 stuns is a definate preference over the 3 frags. this is because unlike the flash, you get the indicator if you hit anyone with them. this slows down the opposing players, so you can run in and finish them with the m16. this is exceptionally great when using around corners, or in the sudden death mode of sabotage as the radar is always on and players get cautious. meaning, stun, go round corner, pop of, ‘well done marines’
. as you can tell i do play alot of sabotage
Penis
Sorry i don’ t agree i get 35 kills per game 5 death im fine the way i am
Just gotta agree with lolipop:
M14, FTW.
alright. I highly disagree with the guide. “The G36C is the best gun” is a complete overstatement. In the harsh reality there IS no better gun. Every weapon is designed with advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Skorpion is about as weak as a gun gets, but combined with sleight of hand you have one hell of a weapon on your hands. Also, I agree with the few statements above me pointing out the red dot sight as overrated, because it is. I do like the G36C myself, but when i use it it’s usually with sleight of hand and a silencer, bandolier and steady aim. The M4 is also a great gun, because although it lacks power it has some of the best range of an AR. You could debate the M16 does but you have to rely on that one burst. Once you start playing more you find out that if you don’t get that one hit kill that in fact the enemy will usually run away or get cover because they realized how nooby the M16 really is. Yes, it’s effective, but to say it’s the best gun is an outrage. Many people argue that the MP5 is better, and in my opinion it is. I can use that gun every map with sleight of hand and win, it’s all about maneuverability. No matter how strong a gun is, if you camp and sit in a corner with the M16 you’re more then likely to get hit from the side or fragged or stunned/flashed etc. etc. By using that gun your most effective method is camping which is a great weakness as it only works on the newer players, so when you get into a room of people with skill and wonder why your M16 isn’t working you can take it up with them. And yes I have played quite a few clan matches in my day and I know that’s really the only place you can use it, with either someone else watching your back or someone with the MP5. I played a lot of dubs matches. And I have quite a bit of experience so I know what I’m talking about.
i honestly don’t agree with any of you. i am level 18 on i think the fourth or fifth level of prestige. all of you guys are griping about the m4 and the p90. the m4 is great in places, while the p90 and m16 and even the m14 all have their places. a while back i would have preferred the G3. but by far now i believe that the mp5 with a silencer is about the best gun you can get if your into the fast moving and firing type of playing. if you wanna add me on playstation network, my name is charlesburk.
hey guys just stumbled over this site while checking cod 4 online. ive played this game over 3 seperate xbox accounts and have racked up in total about 100000 kills and could of reached level 10 prestige a hundred times over. so here@s some words of wisdom. m16 is da win gun, red dot, stopping power and deep impact for all those noob’s who think a wall will save them. oh and i want to agree with another post on this wall, 3 stun grenades are way more useful than the frag equivalent. personally my favourite sniper is the R700, totally accurate and powerfull although does recoil slightly more than the first available snipe (which is also pretty awesome) although i only play free for all (as i like to keep my ratios up) win – 2.15. kd – 1.89. just wanna say i aint preaching just giving a point of view. oh one more thing just wanna have a quick bitch about – noobtube (gay) martrydom (well gay) juggernaut (extremely gay-unless ure using a shottie) claymores ( fucking gay) people with shit clan tags(007 isnt a cool clan tag) one more thing i am the greatest free for all player ever.
I am that un-named Assassin. I love finding noobs who have the M-16 and Red Dot Sight. They get cocky because their weapon is overpowered; makes them easier to take down.
god if everybody followed your advice cod would be a fucking grenade party with P90’s. You should never encourage new people to adopt noob tactics. If the community doesn’t reinforce good behavior and fair play cod would be in a race to the bottom with people shamelessly whoring the most assholic of tactics. Oh yeah, it is like that, at least on xbox live. COD on live is a cess pool because of garbage tactics like these. At least you don’t like martyrdom, but you should give bog a chance.

Lol it would be funny if people adopted noob tactics then I use my best tactic C4 spawn killing it rocks!
every gun has its advantage on certain maps, and yes there are weapons that are used more often by those ignorant annoying “noobs” like the grenade launchers shot off at the start of a search and destroy match or using the m21, p90 etc.what really pisses me off tho is those who do headshots in cage matches, basically cheating because they cant do it on their own when the enemy isnt letting them kill them.
ive been a gold cross for a while now and my stats include a kill death ratio of 2.04 and a win streak of 138, and of all my experience i can say its not the gun, its who is shooting it and there are no special win every time strategies, everyone has their own that helps them win.
i have mine and i rock the shit on basically every map on any game type.
get at me im lookin for a clan im good as hell youll want me on your team
i play ps3 and my names:
BeatinCheeks623
The article/comments are laughable.
People saying they have experience at 5th prestige is really funny. I’m in a sponsored MLG clan and have been 10th prestige since before most of you had the game.(december 07). I pro it up every game.
The best class I have come about is MP5 with red dot, Juggernaut (dont hate), 3 frag, and dead silence. I agree with eh article on the dead silence part. Considering 1/3 of all people have turtle beach headsets. If you think people can magically find you, it’s true. With a gaming headset i can here you reload or switch to a pistol from 100 yards away.
Dead silence all the way.
this probably isnt the place to post this but maybe one of u guys can help….i’ve just started playing cod 4 again after a long break to play css, the annoying problem i have is the servers i am playing on constantly have console messages being displayed on the left hand side of the screen which makes it relly hard to concentrate. Is there a way of stopping these from being displayed, i’ve tried turning the console off in my game settings but now realize that dosn’t affect the servers console. thx in advance

This guide is must be the training manual all the people I hate on COD use. You’re encouraging people to use the noob tube? Also the mp44 is a great gun if you have any brains and figure out what perks go good with it. I’ll bet you also encourage campinf in the corner with quad noobtubes and claymores placed around you. I used the RPD and M4o only my first time through, but now I can use any gun with ease and efficiency. All I’m saying is stop training noobs and start getting people to figure out their style and run with it!
Thats not really a guide I finished the game twice without any help
waht is the highest lvl?
ARE U RETARDED?!?! the G36c is HANDS DOWN the best gun in the game… at point blank its a p90 on crack for hip fire… at medium range its like a M16 ON steroids only automatic… and at long ranges u can burst it and take down countless numbers of snipers be4 they even hold their breath… ITS the only gun in the game u can use in any circumstance… and the g36c and the g3 have better knife ranges then any other guns… its small and compact so u dont have a big ol barrel sticking out giving u away… its reload tiem is better then the skorpion and with stopping power is 2 – 4 shot kill and becus base damage is 1.4 and ppl s heads retain 1.4, u can egt 1 shot headshots on ppl unlike m4 or mp5… only 2 bad things about the gun… (1) U NEED red dot so when u fisrt start using the gun ur gunna ahte it cuz its iron sights are off and just plane retarded… but onc eu unlock RDS ur all set. (2) its takes a while to change ur gameplay style… its not sumthign u force urself to do… after using nothing but a g36c for a day or two u will automaticlay retain an understandiugn and exact estimat on the gun… just need practice… and u need to have su mskil lto use it cuz ts far from a noob gun…
This isn’t helpin me at all. I need a guide to help beat the campin noobs that spray all the time when i try to no-scope them or somethin.
