Call of Duty 4 Patch!

It’s as if heaven dropped a rainbow on the millions of CoD4 fans today (at least the Xbox360 followers). TeamXbox is reporting that the official patch for CoD4 has been officially delivered to Microsoft for certification (pronounced it’ll be another week or so). The patch addresses several issues that have been giving players migraines since the game debuted last year. Here’s a quick rundown in the order that I personally find them important. Get the skinny after this oddly orange link!

muzzle.jpgInstant Mute - Yeah I am leading off with this because it seems that CoD4 is quite popular with annoying, inbred people. instead of having to bring up their gamercard and mute them (a several blade process that is sure to leave you laying dead on the battlefield by the time you get back to the battle) you can simply bring up the player list/score screen and mute em right there. Very handy. Bye Bye rednecks!

handoff.jpgHost Transfer - If the host ends a game, a new host is assigned and the battle continues. No more beating the snot out of the other team only to have them call “No Joy” by dumping the match before you get your victory. There appears to be a slight pause in the game as a new host is chosen and assigned, and then the game rolls on. This is huge.

beback.jpgSniper’s are BACK - I have altogether avoided the sniper rifles in the game due to the total lack of accuracy. Even the ACOG left a lot to be desired. While they don’t appear to be making it any easier to control the sway while you’re “in scope” hits will be far more reliable and deadly. I can’t tell you how many times my Barrett was dead on the other dude and pinged harmlessly off the wall about 6 feet from him when I pulled the trigger. At the very least this patch component gives me an excuse to be a horrible sniper. Wonder who/what I can blame next week?

That’s the important stuff, now lets move on to the things I could care less about (but you might)… Hit page two for the exciting conclusion.

I agree, they need to remove Kill Cam. It is annoying. Seriously, to hear that they’re ‘improving it’ kind of pisses me off. What is the point of a silent attack if they can tell where you came from?

Kill cam is nice when you are not sniping if you are sniping then use them claymores! However, I think they should go as far as a comprimise, for people having a sniper as their primary they should not only give them gilly when necessary but also disable kill-cam viewing while they are sniping.

    • 5 DemonicDerek // Feb 13, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Oh, I forgot to talk about the sniping accuracy boost thing. That would explain why I had my scope steadied for a few seconds on a fellow sniper and fired dead on the head and somehow missed him with a barett .50! My uncle who was watching at the time said “I thought you had him!”, so yeah… I was wondering about that. Really have strayed away form sniping since then, but will get back into it if the patch does a nice job at fixing this! With that patch in mind it makes me wonder how many sniping kills will I get now that the shots will actually go where I tell them too (mostly by that I mean either lag or the gun’s lack of accuracy in-game that isn’t caused by what the patch is fixing).

Kill cams are so f’ing horrible! UGH!

It nearly ruined BF2: MC for me. Oh wow - I’m Special Forces and have a silenced weapon for taking flag points - oh look, I killed two dudes and now they know where I was. Yay.

MUTE… Thank you, last time I listen to a jackhole say “get raped b****” or “can anyone hear me?”

    • 10 Mr_Cheerful // Feb 13, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Why not for the UAV jammer perk to also have the ability to disable the kill cams?
Why not make a perk that doe it entirely on its on, gives people an option.

    • 11 Tinman // Feb 13, 2008 at 8:43 pm

When you snipe you learn something, if your crosshairs are dead on-you will more than likely miss. Even in real life, especially in real life. My brother handled them, he should know.

    • 12 smon jiff // Feb 13, 2008 at 8:57 pm

i think the killcam has its good and bad sides like DemonicDerik said. They shouldnt be gotten rid of all together but it would be nice if you could get a perk or whatever to stop people from using it on you.

    • 13 darkwonders // Feb 13, 2008 at 11:34 pm

I don’t see a problem with the killcam. It keeps you on your toes.

Nothing I love more than sniping a guy, move to a different spot, and watch him wander to where I was, only to be sniped by me again.

The killcam helps with those WTF? moments But sometimes they don’t help as the killcam doesn’t show the radar… sometimes I want to know how the guy knew I was right there…

I wish they would fix the reloading glitch. Nothing I hate more than dying only to see in the Killcam that the guy magically starts shooting with an empty gun. I see him physically remove the clip from his gun. Then suddenly he turns and shoots me without even putting a new clip back in. That is total BS because I would have killed him otherwise. I saw him reloading, which is why I started firing…

    • 14 smon jiff // Feb 13, 2008 at 11:42 pm

possibly lag or i guess it also depends on the gun as with the shotties you can interupt the reload when it is only half full or whatever and get a quick shot off

God… Bungie takes forever on patches I guess… Infinity ward Comes out with a game AFTER Halo 3. Has a patch out before them (despite Halo in need of a big fix or two), and it does more than just fix a few things… Wow.

    • 16 ajnokia // Feb 14, 2008 at 1:41 am

For those of you are wondering… if any. The PS3 patch is nearly ready to be sent to Sony. Theres still a little work needed first though

    • 17 Pojut // Feb 14, 2008 at 9:16 am

As far as the Kill Cam is concerned, I think that only every third kill by a sniper should cause the Kill Cam to activate…in this way, a person can set themselves up and stay where they are for a little bit, but soon enough (just like in real life) people will realize where the sniper’s position is and the sniper will have to move.

      two questions:
1: Dose the killcam follow the grenade through the air matrix style?

      2. And is the patch comming to ps3?

    • 19 FaMiCuS // Feb 14, 2008 at 11:24 am

      @clstirens
Patches only come out when a game needs fixing. In Call of Duty 4’s case the host quiting fix and sniper fix was something that was needed, the rest are just bonuses while the kill cam “improvement” is a minus. Don’t be hating on Halo 3 because you don’t have the abilities to play it.

    • 20 Necro9 // Feb 14, 2008 at 11:31 am

I agree with darkwonders on the reloading glitch and some of the animations in general (airstrikes, grenade toss, reload). They should be more pronounced (I think that’s the word I’m looking for). I want to be able to tell without a doubt when someone is reloading or calling in an airstrike. I also want my enemy to know when I’m reloading so I don’t look like an idiot when I’m standing right in front of them and not firing lol.

    • 21 Vote4Drizzt // Feb 14, 2008 at 2:15 pm

I think the Idea of a “kill-the-cam” perk is nice, it allows snipers the choice, I know that my choice would be to not use it, I like to let them get there and kill them a second time.

As for the sniper, I would like the hits to work better, missing for no reason is a problem, but so is haviung an M4OA3 with Stopping power, hit and NOT kill the guy, that gun just hit you in the Chest with the most power any gun can have, and it isn’t a kill?

    • 22 Sean // Feb 15, 2008 at 8:16 am

it should folow the bullet into the other guys head and not give you locations if the enemy

    • 23 Adam // Feb 16, 2008 at 3:42 am

@Sean: all one would have to do is go where the bullet was comming from

one problem i have is the bloke moaning about removing the kill cam!
he obv is a sniper him self and gets anoyed when he gets killed by someone findin out where hes but a good sniper would kill and move so that he wont get spoited and a good gamer would get in the thick of the action instead of hiding in the corner for the whole game
apart from that little moan i think the new patch is guna b hot cant wait to dwnload it

I think the kill cam is part of what makes CoD great. plus if you dont like it, they offer hardcore modes that are much slower and dont have kill cams. here is a list of things i would like to see fixed:

      1) Airstrikes - when i stay in the same place for the first two waves and dont get hurt, and then suddenly die in the third.

      2) Hip fire accuracy in the assault weapons: nothing is more frustrating to me than getting killed by someone, who i get the jump on, who turns around and shoots me from the hip with an assault weapon. in particular are the M4 carbine, the M16, and the AK 47. it really seems to take away any advantage of using a weapon that is directly suited for close range combat like a MP5 if you can use an assault weapon, and have an advantage in long, medium, and close range.

      3) Hardcore Mode : it seems like about every fourth or fifth hardcore search and destroy game i get into i spawn and suddenly get killed by a RPG shot by my own team member. in order to solve this problem i suggest a team voting system(this could be applied to hardcore team deathmatch as well). when someone tk’s (teamkills) three or more people a vote should be taken by the whole team as to whether that player should be kicked from the game. i think a simple majority should be good. this way these people dont kill everyone round after round.

To end: I love CoD4 do not read this message and assume i think it is a terrible game. i merely think these are issues that should be addressed by infinity ward in the near future.
