In a shocking upset, the top two games on XBL were washed away in a landslide victory by Beatutiful Katamari, or as we call it around Sarcastic Gamer HQ, BK. This left millions of fanboys and girls stunned. They can’t seem to figure out how they could loose to a game that involved playing with balls, with crappy graphics.
While the only explanation is that the game is far cooler than most realized, which would explain it’s over night rise to the top. Kevin Noack, a gamer that recently made the switch from Halo 3 had this to say.
“I just got tired of shooting. I needed to get back to my gaming roots, which involve bad graphics and no point.”
BK developer, Namco Bandai, sent this press release to Sarcastic Gamer.
“Hey Sarcastic Gamer,
While we had always believed that Beautiful Katamari would turn out to be an awesome video game, we were pleasantly surprised to see it become as large of a smash hit as it is today.
We were overjoyed with the recent news that Beautiful Katamari surpassed Halo 3 and Call of Duty:MW as the top played game on Xbox LIVE.
Even more impressive, it was just announced that Beautiful Katamari was the best selling video game title worldwide for the 2007 calendar year according to The NPD Group, Chart Track and The GFK Group! The fact that this game was released in October and only had three months to achieve the top position is phenomenal.

I just don’t get the Katamari franchise. While I have only played the first game, I am guessing the series hasn’t changed much. What is so great about rolling a giant ball around? How does that hold someone’s attention for more than a half an hour. Someone please explain this to me.

At least it’s original, every other popular game is essentially shooting or killing (not as though I don’t enjoy them myself however.)

Actually, RaiseHavoc, it’s not supposed to hold you for more than thirty minutes. The game, while it’s the same idea, roll a ball to get bigger, changes. If you just roll up everything you’ll get big, but you’ll lose points for not focusing on the items you’re looking for. The game actually takes a lot of skill to master. Sure the repetition isn’t for everyone, but there’s an incredible game in Katamari. BK is definitely the worst of the four in my opinion because the levels aren’t as weird as the other ones. If you’ve never actually played Katamari and are just saying it’s stupid because of the idea and the bad graphics, shut the hell up and go play We Love Katamari. It’s not often I say this, but graphics don’t make a game. The game may not be realistic looking, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. I wonder how many of the people at SG have actually played the game. Ok, I’m done being a fanboy now. Good day.
You tell them Grantly! I also doubt many of you have ever tried any of the Katamari games. These are fun and the graphics do fit in the whole game experience. It’s just a fun and relaxing little game you can play for a while every now and then and it’s most likely it will make you smile every time you play it! …too bad some people are so d*mn busy “pwning noobs” and won’t ever play anything without guns and grenades in it (preferably wielded by bio/mecha-enhanced super-soldiers). Screw diversity, right….
