It seems that when Worms: A Space Oddity comes out for the Wii, it will NOT have any online play.
You’ve got to be kidding me Nintendo. I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything less…
Why this is their dumbest decision yet, after the jump!
One of the coolest things about the Wii is that its control scheme makes it easy to play games that normally feel better with a mouse and keyboard, (FPS excluded). Therefore, playing Worms on the Wii might actually be a lot of fun.
The problem is that it’s not exactly Smash Brothers in terms of popularity. Worms fans are like fighting game fans - they’re a small target audience. Worms has been out on every platform known to man, but the bottom line is, the only place you’re going to find any human competition is online.
By severing the online component to the Wii version, Nintendo is completely killing any chance that their core audience would purchase this game. They had better add a bunch of mini-games to this, or none of the Wii owners may even give it a second look.
Even the XBLA version has online play, not to mention the PSP and DS versions!
Way to shoot the horse in the leg before it’s out of the gate.

Bad decision indeed.
Still you can’t but notice how any Worms game is way more fun when you’re sitting (in this case - standing, waving hands) next to your competitor(s). Plus it’s one of those games you can easily talk almost anyone into playing with you (and for the Wii it should be even easier)!
To me playing Worms online is almost as boring as playing versus AI. Kinda like the beat em up games…
So not a huge loss anyway… right?

Its a Wii game.. no one is going to buy it.. Why should they spend money hosting a server for online play?

SupaSlick you do realize Nintendo is not developing this game nor publishing it? It was either Team 17’s decision or THQs. It was a very stupid decision indeed, but dont pawn this off on Nintendo.

Keith K hit the nail square on the head; it’s a Wii game not developed by Nintendo. Only seventeen confused grandmothers, two drunken uncles and three clueless soccer moms are actually going to purchase the thing; so why bother paying for a server that would cost more than the hack job of porting this over from the DS?

Please DON’T add a bunch of stupid mini-games this time, nintendo!
I am sick of these minigame-games. Yeah, Mario Party is fun. Wario Ware was fantastic. Wii-play ain’t too bad of a deal. But ENOUGH!! I just saw a preview of a new bomberman for Wii and I thought “yay! a new bomberman” Until I saw that is would consist of ‘over 50 minigames’ and a ’story’
Thats real ****ing great.
