Every month my wife gets the Family Circle in the mail. It’s a magazine directed at women, who have families and are looking for that next, great lemon meringue recipe. After she pulled it from the mail pile, she thumbed through it and immediately noticed something different.
What you ask?
On the second page of the magazine, Nintendo has took out a full page ad for the Wii.
Welcome to the new Nintendo. To check out the scanned pics, continue reading….
Here’s the cover of the thing, freshly scanned and immediately to the right, check out the Wii ad. Click on either for an enlarged, more detailed picture.

Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutley zero problem with women playing video games. Why would I care that Nintendo is actively seeking soccer moms and 10 year old girls to play games on their console. I don’t and yet this still bothers me.
Maybe it’s because it finally crystalizes what most people have been screaming from the rooftops for some time about the Wii. It’s a toy. It’s a more expensive Vtech or Leapster, but for adults.
I hope this opens eyes for gamers and Wii extremists. Nintendo doesn’t care about you. Nintendo saw that you only bought 500,000 copies of the latest Metroid game, but picked up 4,000,000 units of Wii Play. They see that their core audience wants crap games that let you turn your brain off while you waggle your arms like a shrieking monkey. So, let me repeat that…
Nintendo doesn’t care about you.
They want people like Linda Perry. Not singer/songwriter Linda Perry. They want soccer mom Linda Perry. They want the Linda Perry’s that only plays Wii Sports.
Welcome to the new Nintendo.

Agreed! Plus when you see what can be done with a wiimote, check that out : youtube(dot)com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
*sigh* Will that ever be done? for the progress of video games? Yes, I’m afraid NOT!! Oh boy

lol …
… so okay, at least give Nintendo credit. They gotta target their playing demographic somehow. When its those extremely casual gamers or old people, a full page ad in this type of magazine does the job.
Its not like the Wii is considered a serious gaming platform anyway, right? They’re in a market all their own and aren’t even legitimately competing with the 360 and the PS3.

What are the 360 fanboys problems with the Wii? Are they jealous becuase its outselling their console? Zelda: TP is the best selling game on the wii, and i do not beleive this applies: “They see that their core audience wants crap games that let you turn your brain off while you waggle your arms like a shrieking monkey”. TP is a well thought out deeply involving RPG, with a strong storyline and probably best of all time IMO.
Super mario galaxy is also an intuitive game which does not make you “waggle your arms like a shrieking monkey”, It is deeply involving
I am not a Nintendo fan boy and i own a 360 and a psp but i am sick and tired of people spitting on the Wii because of its success and ignoring facts in front of their face.
If you want to dispute it then email me.

@ Maul: Those games are two out of 200 games released. If you want to keep believing that a 1% success rate is good for a console and good for gamers, keep dreaming.
I’ll also bet my ridiculously high government salary that those two games are the only games you ever play on the Wii…
This isn’t a “fanboy” thing, this is a GAMER thing. Nuff said.

I have the Wii and PS3….With all the crap PS3 gets about lack of games (see this sites song). I would go so far as to say the PS3 has higher quality games then the Wii. And more of them to boot.
Nintendo needs to bring brawl out and ditch friend codes….oh god the friend codes.

Indeed, The ps3 has far better games coming out for it.
It is sad that nintendo never left the sad state of software sales that was the Gamecube.
They just made it prettier and gimicky. I have always wondered if this was the new tickle me elmo… Just a fad..

That being said. I am a 360 owner. (Ps3 looking really good about now though…)

I heard even Queen Elizabeth is hooked on the Wii.
And well, shame on you Nintendo.
They should realize we didn’t buy 4,000,000 WiiPlay, we bought 4,000,000 controllers in a better deal ^_^.
Shame on you Nintendo

@Lono
MP3, TP, SMG, Battalion wars2, no more heroes, medal of Honour: heores 2, Mario kart Wii, guitar hero 3. am I getting through to you? About 70% of Wii games are casual agmes and none of them require you to wave your arms around screaming.
