Probably because of Rothbart’s incessant whining, Gametrailers has issued a number of Comparison Videos on the PS3 using HDMI with the true RGB.

The results are surprising. Check it out after the jump.

Here it is, what you’ve all been waiting for:

.
Yep. Absofuckingloutely the same. Go cry me a river.

      I really don’t see a difference,

    • 2 Lono // Jan 22, 2008 at 11:55 am

      that’s what I’m saying.

HDMI is a little smoother and the color reflections are better. The component one is just barely blurry. The difference is not that significant but purist like roth will complain to hell and back about it.

What’s the point of doing a comparison if they’re the same?

    • 5 Sean "rothbart" Workman // Jan 22, 2008 at 12:23 pm

I question the validity of this entire comparison video. Why is the section picture in the link below so _drastically_ different in comparison when the rest appear virtually identical? I smell “screwed up comparison video”…

How about rerecording some of the videos that were accused of looking “washed out” in comparison to the 360 version instead of an intentionally over-saturated stylized game like Uncharted?

GameTrailers, you’ve proven nothing (neither guilt nor innocence).

While I love rothbart I think it might be time to hit him with the monniker of “fan boy.” But then, and I’m sure he’d agree with this, who cares?

having just upgraded from a component set up to hdmi the difference IS there trying to record and show that in a video is utterly impossible the only way to find out for your self go to your local future shop or best buy and ask them to demo component and HDMI there is a LARGE difference and that video was at 720 P not 1080 p the difference there alone is enough for me to laugh that video off you want a true comparison do 1080 p to 1080 p with hdmi and component and dont bother trying to record it

    • 8 Harag // Jan 22, 2008 at 1:38 pm

and what ive said gose for BOTH 360 and PS3

    • 9 Mishi // Jan 22, 2008 at 2:11 pm

      WOW, the water is amazing!

    • 10 clstirens // Jan 22, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Yes, because All ps3 games output in 1080p….

BTW, rothbart. You are a fanboy, get over it. I don’t hold my console over your console (anymore). And the visuals don’t freaking matter that much, its the gameplay.

I’m going to play devils advocate and say they should of picked a multiplatform game and used a 360-Ps3 comparison with both playing at thier maxium levels. Not saying PS3 would win, but it would show the graphical maximum of what you can expect from each console of a specific game.

Kind of like Out of the box comparison then you can go to the Maximum comparison. Of course something would be lost in streaming.

@clstirens: Your labels don’t matter to _me_. If it helps you sleep at night thinking that, so be it. I call Sony on their crap too and if I felt they were screwing people over at the moment I’d be ranting about that. The bottom line is the guy made a video, claimed the differences people were complaining about didn’t matter, the people disagreed, the guy produced another video to prove he was right, the Xbots all say “See! We told you so!” and all I’m saying is “If the guy’s a liar or incompetant, what does his clarification video mean?!”

I know people _personally_ that say they can _clearly_ see a difference between having Full RGB and Super White on and not having them on. I trust people I know a hell of a lot more than some GameTrailers yahoo trying to save face on “teh internets”.

The guy screwed up and is trying to “prove” he didn’t.

i invite any one of you to record a comparison of your own and tell me how it looks….. unfortunately
it dosent work the way u seem to think it dose if you shoot a camera at a tv ect the recording has already downgraded visual quality go do your own tests

    • 14 commander121 // Jan 22, 2008 at 5:36 pm

jeez that photo does prove that this could be crap but after all this who realy trusts game trailers anymore with comparision videos

    • 15 Mehar // Jan 22, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Sean, if you think this one is also “screwed” then why don’t you make one?

    • 16 Cube // Jan 22, 2008 at 7:26 pm

you cant see anything on a Web video.

    • 17 Cube // Jan 22, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Do this at home on your OWN HDTV and you can see a huge gain. HDTV also enables super white, huge jump in colors and detail.

@Mehar: Just because I think that guy’s full of crap doesn’t mean I have access to the hardware to do it either.

I think Harag’s hit the nail on the head though…

    • 19 clstirens // Jan 23, 2008 at 1:38 am

@ rothbart: I wasn’t proving you false, there could very well be something wrong. I apologize for the harsh statement. (whethor or not you care, I enjoy reading your articles, and i _generally_ respect your opinion.)

Although, with that, I’m not sure I understand the purpose/point of the screenshot, besides the fact that they are radically different.

Check this out. This is someone else attempting an “off the screen” comparison of Full RGB versus Limited. You can CLEARLY see a difference. Now since this is one YouTube and off his screen, the “absolute” quality sucks, but you cannot deny there is a “relative” difference between the two. As has been described to me, the dynamic range is MUCH greater with Full RGB turned on. Black is _black_, colors are vibrant.
