I was pretty excited to take a shot at Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. It’s got Nazis to kill and New York City to defend. Color me intrigued.
I happened to be one of the lucky few that actually was able to download it. Now, I can’t get it off my hard drive fast enough. Find out why, after the jump!
Let’s start with the controls. The controls suck. You only get three different sensitivities, Low, Medium and High. I started with Medium, but it makes you feel like you’re walking around underwater. So,I tried High. It was way too squirrely. It has some kind of inertia thing working that caused a half-a-second hiccup, so when you look left and immediately try looking right,it would slow down and then turn right. It was really strange. I was forced to keep the Medium settings on.
So, anyway, you start off on a construction girder in the middle of downtown New York when the proverbial crap hits the fan. Nazi airplanes come streaking by the buildings and if you look off into the bay, you’ll see an armada approaching New York. You’re first job is to immediately get off the girder and get to the street level. That part, I liked. Unfortunately, the graphics are so clunky and ugly, it was difficult to appreciate the spectacle.
When you finally do get a weapon, you’ll notice immediately how poor of a shooter it really is. I can’t tell you how many times, in the demo, that I saw tons of A.I. routine glitches when I would see a bad guy behind cover and when I shot five or six shots, dead bang center of his noggin, there was no response. With the same enemy in front of me, I inched up a bit, which apparently triggering his A.I. script, causing him to shimmy and stand up. I raised my gun to fire, but he crouched down into the same position. I altered my aim and this time with one shot, he was dead. Apparently, the only difference was that half of a step. That kind of scripted bull crap happened a number of times throughout the demo.

Sounds like you at least finished the demo, I gave it about five minutes after picking up my first weapon and called it a steaming pile of and then went back to COD4. What is the point of uploading a demo that would have sucked on the xbox? How does this benefit the company or increase pre-orders?

This game is truly crappy. I can’t believe a developer would create a piece of junk like this in today’s shooter market.

yes it looks like a bad PS2 game, this is unacceptable when there are better shooters like GoW and CD4 out.
I too had to settle for medium sensitivity, yet the game seemed to drag with the controls. The enemy AI was real weak (reminded me of Medal of Honor for Ps1)
I did like the fact that you could run up to an enemy and trigger an evironmental kill or human shield (reminds me of the punisher game.)
Overall, it was …meh

I thought it was a decent game and an awesome concept, but the way it is executed in current form isn’t the best. I just hope that by demo this is mainly just a tech concept and will be greatly improved upon otherwise I can not see myself playing this game when it actually comes out.

When a game sucks this much, you shouldn’t make a demo. End of story.
