Star Trek still where nobody has boldly gone

Star Trek has been a household name for almost my entire life. Watching TNG was one of the only entertaining things my family got together to do when I was a kid. I’m a big fan of all of the many incarnations of the Star Trek Universe.  I remember the days before Riker got fat and Tasha “someone cut my hair using a bowl” Yar was still alive. Ah, those were the days.

Despite what at one point looked like a great MMO (redundant I know), Perpetual Entertainment’s forthcoming Star Trek title seems to be in jeopardy. Not because the title lacked merit, or that the obviously robust fan pool doesn’t have money to spend, it’s because Perpetual Entertainment seemed to be digging a hole for itself faster than yours truly at a feminist rally.

Find out what’s in store for Star Trek Online, after the jump!

PE already put their other big project, the Sony backed Gods and Heroes MMO title, on hold in order to devote their full attention to the Star Trek MMO back in October. Things have just gotten worse since then. They were sued in December by their own public relations firm Kohnke Communications for a whole host of charges like breach of contract, fraudulent transfer, and fraud.

Citing “multiple sources at the San Francisco-based developer,” the MMO news site WarCry is now claiming that Perpetual is no longer making Star Trek Online. Perpetual has yet to confirm nor deny anything so far, but given PE’s grim future, it looks like we’ll all have to wait another few years to command our own Starships.

I’m glad Star Trek died before release rather than come out as the choking gasps of a dying studio. What I don’t get is how it has taken anyone this long to get a Star Trek MMO out there. For pete’s sake, Stargate is going to come out before Star Trek! A show that had McGuyver acting, at his worst!

I don’t know about you but saying “Engage” and cutting down some fool with my “Bat’leth” holds more than a little appeal to me. I’ll keep an eye out for any news and you all will be the first to know if this sinking ship bails itself out.

Nobody cares about what the goddamn trekkies think. No one who counts, anyway.

lol from a guy called Wookie, your obviously bitter because your a star wars fan and yuor MMO turned out bad aswell. People do care what they have to say now and again

Personally i’m no fan of star trek but i can’t stand it when games companies make bad games, especially MMO’s (cos they are just trynig to make money in the footsteps of Runescape and WoW).

A shame another potential 30,000 happy faces just switched the other way.

I’m a big fan of the Stargate series, but the MMO has me a little worried, it is a very crowded market and TV series MMOs never quite live up to expectations… same goes for Star Trek, except I’m not a fan of Star Trek…
