Sources: MMORPG & W00tStudios
Yesterday we brought you news that Perpetual Entertainment was “apparently” no longer developing the Star Trek Online MMO. While nobody has come forward to deny, or acknowledge that fact, we learned of a related rumor that also seems more than likely. Obviously Trekkies just love their rumors. I can actually picture it: a couple 30 year old guys talking in Klingon over their CB radios about all the possible futures for their favorite Sci-Fi universe. Of course they’re single. Hello ladies!
Find out what the “new” rumor is after the jump!
Kicked off by W00tstudios claiming that “anonymous sources” had informed them that Cryptic Studios had acquired the license for Star Trek Online, the rumor mill was in full swing. Trekkies are fanatics about this stuff; who knew? See above. Anyway, MMORPG.com then released this quote from Victor Watcher, Cryptic’s Online Community Manager:
“What we are doing with P2 is interviewing a number of their former employees for positions here at Cryptic for our projects currently under development.”
That fits with the original rumor that the IP had moved over from Perpetual to another San Francisco Bay Area studio. Cryptic, a company known for their MMO titles like City of Heroes and City of Villains, which were good titles if not incredibly long lived.
In my opinion, a move to Cryptic would not necessarily be a bad thing. Hopefully someone (Perpetual, Cryptic, whoever) will come out and tell us something definitive soon. This whole time I’ve felt like I have Rothbart looking over my shoulder as I hype the possible announcement of a game that may or may not even exist at this point. Even if the game IS being made by Cryptic, it will not see actual life for a long long time yet.
Seriously Trekkies, I was with you up to this point, but come on; “anonymous sources” etc? Please.

LOL, stupid trekkies
Enough with the dirty trekkies already!
Hey, cut it out. I’m somewhat of a trekkie myself.
