Those of you who have been around for a while might notice my somewhat rabid obsession with a particular racing series. Or, you might not have. Either way – it’s there.

Burnout: Paradise City.

I’ve been in love with the Burnout series since day one, and the latest installment has yet to disappoint. I’m going to share a few tips and tricks that will help you make the most out of your trip to Paradise.

Check it out, after the jump!

It’s quite ironic that I wrecked my real car the day I purchased Burnout: Paradise, but that’s a story for a different time. Since that has happened, I’ve spent much of my free time crusing in Paradise City and doling out advice for this new game left and right. Now, it’s time to share with you.

So let’s get started, shall we?

Here’s the basics:

1. Find your Vehicle! – Paradise City has over 75 vehicles in it. They’re broken down into 3 different categories. The car you choose, determines your play style, and which event you’re doing, because certain events are only available to certain cars.

paradise_2208_1.jpgStunt- You start off with the Hunter Calvary, a Stunt class vehicle. These vehicles gain much more boost from jumps and stunts than others, making them ideal for Stunt Runs, Freeburn Challenges, and just exploring the city. These cars are usually balanced in speed and strength making them fine choices for Races if the Speed class turns you off. You won’t be taking many Aggression vehicles out, but you’ll have a better chance than the Speeders.

Aggression- If you were disappointed to hear that Traffic Checking wasn’t returning in Paradise, this is the class for you. Checking is still in the game, but is more dependant on your vehicle. Aggression cars usually have higher strength than others and can easily push traffic out of their way. The trade-off for this strength is less handling and speed, obviously, so they’ll never catch a Speed class in a Race and drive like a drunken cow in a stampede. Their boost is reminiscent of Revenge, i.e. when you take someone down, you gain more boost. The flip side is that if you’re taken out, you lose a boost multiplier.

Aggression vehicles are the perfect choices for Road Rage and Marked Man events.

Good guide. One tiny thing. You can unlock showtime the first time you play it online and press L1 and R1 (or L and R triggers) You dont have to do 4 events you can just do this if you wish

Looks like opinions are going 50/50 on the podcasts I have heard and the forums I have read. It looks like the final product deserves to be played. I think if they wanted more realism they should have added the cops trying to chase you (Burnout: Most Wanted?!?).

Nah, they would steal my idea for the next Burnout/NFS franchise.

Nice job Animathias. I’ll be getting mine from gamefly hopefully, this week…

Thank you, Lono. I think you’re going to enjoy it. I’m not sure how big of a Burnout fan you are, but this game hits the sweet spot for online play.
To Ajnokia, thank you too. Your concern is mentioned in the ‘Online Crash’ portion. I mention that you can enter showtime online no matter how many events you’ve won.

No but I meant you could unlock it by playing online. If you do it online its unlocked for offline. Aah its nothing lol.

Just picked it up today (trading in all of my old GTAs save for the PSP Liberty City Stories in anticipation of GTA IV and to get some store credit to buy the game with) and I’ve sat on it 5 hours straight. Lono, you’re gonna be hooked.

Ah, I didn’t know that part. Doesn’t make much of a difference, though, those 4 events should be done quite quickly.
I was already on my C License when I decided to try Showtime, I just put that info in so people didn’t try to do it first thing.
