Rock Band peripherals are very expensive. According to Amazon.com, on January 31st when they go on sale separately, the guitar and drums are going to be $79.99 a piece. The mic finishes draining your bank account at $29.99. Thats a ton of dough to “play rockstar.”
If you already had a Guitar Hero guitar, those numbers above probably just made you wet yourself. After a quick swipe of my trusty SG Calculator, Buying everything but the guitar costs the same amount as the boxed set! This is the crazy world we live in.
I’ve got some good news though. Someone has decided to step up and help us with this little problem.
Gaze upon our hero after the jump.
Mad Catz, the company that has given us cheap ass controllers for years, has climbed upon their white horse once again. With MTV’s blessing they’re developing cheaper instruments that income challenged gamers like myself need.
They will be making wired and wireless bass guitars, wired mics, and drums using real drumsticks, like the orignial. Why bass guitars? Probably because no one uses the “solo buttons” on the Rock Band guitar. Well, except for all of the females that play Rock Band. I’m sure you two will be disappointed in the Mad Catz Bass guitars.
They’ll also be creating accessories to compliment the instruments, whatever that means.
Makes me wonder what the guitars will be like. Will they be as big as the Rock Band guitar? Will they be what Lono calls “squishy,” or will they click like Guitar Hero guitars? I hope that they combine the best of both designs.
Either way, this looks to be the answer to some people’s prayers. We just have to wait and see what the price tag says. Please be low… for my sake.

I hope they don’t break down or something like that
It’s a good Microphone, but you can get a way with using a head set and save $30.
Good for playing in Band mode by yourself too.
that pic is awesome.
Lono, you just got 50 gamerscore in my book for that statement. The ‘D’ rocks.
As for the story at hand – I’ve always been a little worried about MadCatz accessories ever since their abysmal PSX memory cards that erased your data constantly. Hopefully they’ll prove me wrong with these ones, and actually allow me to join the phenomenon that is Rock Band.
The MadCatz rumble packs I had for my Dreamcast console were considerably better than the Sega originals in my opinion.
lets not forget nyko when we are talking about sub par after market acessories. when it comes to acessories you just cant beat the quality of the original manufacturer. even though the rock band guitar leaves something to be desired. im gonna guess and say that youll regret buying these lower priced/ lower quality instruments PROBABLY in the long run.
