Velvet396, who’s credibility stems from his location in Central Ohio (they don’t tell lies), has gathered up a plethora of posts from SlickDeals, detailing information about a January 28th price drop for the 40GB version of the PS3. Anonymous community members say the $399 price lock will soon tumble to $299.
I mean check out the evidence. One post says…
“i heard rumors that 299 will be the new price of 40gb models. sony is trying to catch up to xbox360, and hddvd.”
Is this not concrete enough for you people?
“I, too, have heard the Jan. 28th date as a possibilty for a $100 price drop…”
Is the PS3 revolution coming with this, now confirmed, rumor? Will gamers everywhere drop to their knees and purchase the discount Blu-Ray player, for a 25% difference?

Damn…Only the 40gb??
The only way they will make that cheaper is if they take another popular feature out. For the first price drop it was no backwards compatability…what’s next–standard wired controllers? If they do drop the price, I hope the 80gb drops to the $399 level to replace the $299 40gb model.

This rumor is completely untrue. First, I once met someone at a party who had a friend who had a brother that worked for Sony, so I know this is a fact. Second, the date of Jan 28 is actually Jan 29.
I hope so, I have been meaning to get a ps3 for a while now. (or, by awhile, I mean since christmas for non-discloseable reasons…)
PLEASE! All you do is complain, OH NO THE PS3 IS TOO EXPENSIVE, yes expensive for me with my 17.5% VAT, and added EXPENSIVE by SONY and everyone else.
You get another price drop, what it will be around $400 for the lowest PS3, getting a PS3 for that would be fantastic over here in the UK, but no it HAS to be cheaper, the day the price drop comes here will be the day I use my 360 to fry my eggs and cook my toast.
Ok, to make a comparison, the PS3 came out in the US, for just around $600, you all complained “Oh it’s too much”…the PS3 comes out late over here, £450, convert that, that’s around $900 dollars. CRAP.
@ Olly Newport i know how you feel over here in Australia it came out for $900 and is now sitting at $700.
Olly, it’s the same in all European countries (well maybe to a lesser extent than the UK) … basically we’re getting consoles, accessories and games priced at a rate of $1 = €1 or worse.
