The 80GB PS3 is dead, it’s already getting pulled from Best Buy. This leaves, for the moment, just the 40 gb PS3.
This is only the beginning.
Find out why the latest rumor could push even more buyers toward the PS3 after the break.
There’s now talk from a Sony insider that a new PS3 model could have an 120, or even 160gb hard drive complete with ….. DualShock 3 controllers.
YES!
It’s good to see Sony has finally understood the true value of such a “last-gen” feature.
This could be the bundle I think a lot of buyers have been waiting for. In my opinion, the worst feature on the PS3 was that they removed the rumble feature from their controllers. Now that’s solved.
The only remaining question is, will this new super PS3 have backwards compatibly? A lot of gamers still own PS2 games, including me, and will want to play thier beloved older games, especially since most gamers will sell, or trade away their PS2 once they upgrade.
We could speculate that it will have BC, since the 80gb model had software emulation, but so far there has been no hint of such a feature.
Come on Sony, the PS3 is finally starting to get some good games, and 2008 looks bright, now just make the right system to play them on and we’ll be in business!

Do what I did, buy a 60GB model. I was able to find one over Christmas for $400. That’s an amazing deal for full BC.

another question would be… the price
how much is it gonna cost?
Personally I don’t really care for backwards compatibility because i have a ps2, but some gamers do.
@Yousty: I kind of agree with you, except for the controllers and maybe (just maybe) the capacity of the HDD.

I hope they never take the SIXAXIS off the market to replace it with the DS3… I absolutely hate rumble controllers. What a completely useless way to double or triple the weight of the controller, half its battery life and bulk it up considerably.
All for the pleasure of a two-handed vibrator….

theres only one good game that i actually like the six axis controll for high velocity bowling
but they will never take Six axis off the market completely and the Dual shock 3 controllers have sixaxis AND rumble

Littlebigplanet intrigues me, but I am poor after buying my elite. Ah well.

The size of the hard drive would never effect my buying of a PS3. Knowing that you can put any size drive in that you want to with no penalties makes that kind of a moot point.
I did what Yousty did though.. when I heard the 60GB was being phased out and replaced with software emulation consoles, I went out and bought one before they were gone

Anski, you beat me to what I was going to say, heh.
Unless they are going to really change something fundamental in the PS3’s architecture - what’s the point? If someone wants a rumble controller, they wait until they come out local and then buy one. If they need/want a bigger HD, they go out and buy one since they aren’t propitiatory.

if the new ones do have backwards compatibility i will be SO jealous! it’s one of the features that still makes me glad i forked over $600 for the 60 gig one lol I can’t wait for dualshock 3 tho

I still dont trust Sony and I’m not buying a ps3. Sure Sony is getting back on its feet but it was Sony’s own damn fault for falling over to begin with

how was it sonys fault? i see no real issues with the systems… ive bought 2 of the 80 gig ps3s and use them both alot with no faults. i own over 200 ps2 games, they all work, and the sixaxis isnt that bad and not completely useless. but ill agree i plan to buy a few DS3s tho asap
