Who says great NEW games have to be expensive? Sony recently announced that Patapon will be $19.99. Take that $39.99 games!
Why you should join the army after the jump!
I’ve been looking forward to Patapon since I heard it was being made by the same dev studio that made Loco Roco. Then I saw the first screenshots. It’s a quirky new game that combines action and rhythm elements as you command you tiny odd looking troops through various adventures.
Patapon will launch their rythym based battles against weird looking monsters on Feb. 26th.
Now, if only more developers would follow this trend … maybe I could afford that psp slim someday.

I’m telling ya… we’ve got Warhawk at $40, Twisted Metal Head On (for the PS2) for $20, Beats for the PSP for $5, Patapon for the PSP for $20. I for one appreciate the pricing experiments Sony’s willing to try. Of course the flip side of that experimentation is GT5P for $40 but we all should be voting with our wallets as much as our mouths… this is our chance to tell (and show) Sony we like these moves.
When the 360 launched and games were suddenly _$60_, you had only two choices… pay $60 or go without. We now (largely) have a much larger selection to choose from. If the lower/budget priced games sell like crazy, we’re MUCH more likely to see more in the future.
I’ll admit, I have no idea whether I’d like Patapon or not (I’m guessing not), it’s important to see the bigger picture here and if you’re remotely interested in any of their lower priced games, I encourage you to let them know.
Warhawk, without a $20 accessory is almost unplayable, but yeah, for those that already have a bluetooth headset it is $40. I love the unbiased staff. Lono, I think you should take up the Wii as the passion in your life and defend it to the death. Maybe Doc can take up the Neo Geo pocket and PMPB can rescue the Wonder Swan and share its virtues with the masses. That said, it’s kind of annoying to always have someone harping on other’s purchasing decisions; just saying.
@Tweep: I already had a headset but honestly I rarely use it. I only use it if I’m playing a match scheduled with a bunch of friends.
“Almost unplayable” is quite the exaggeration I’d say.
Your right that it is an exaggeration (hoping for sarcasm), but (I think the game has 32 players online at a time which is awesome btw) I figured you would not really be able to participate without the headset.
$20 for a ps2 game wtf ?
I thought it was bad enough to pay $15 for a xbox game on live.
@patrick: $20 for a brand new feature packed PS2 game.
Just because a game isn’t on the latest hardware doesn’t mean it’s not worth purchasing or playing.
For fans of the Twisted Metal series, TMHO is a bargain at $20.
Although… I just realized that SupaSlick wasn’t entirely clear that Patapon is for the PSP. So if you’re actually complaining about that game instead of Twisted Metal, well, you’re mistaken.
@Tweep: Warhawk is completely playable without a headset. I prefer Zones and you can do just fine without the headset but for CTF, it does help if you’re trying to coordinate to capture the flag. I usually play defense in CTF so teammate communication isn’t so pivotal.
@ Rothbart… That brief description just made me want the game all the more; curses!
Yep it’s for the PSP – my oversight
I already ordered patapon 1t 19.99 and it will ship when it comes.
Games should be cheeper in 2007 not more expensive.
Or at least there should be a large selection of cheep good games to choose from in 2007.
Gaming is fine for me over here in ENGLAND!! I don’t know if it is the same in America, but if I wait about a month, most 360 games drop from £50 to about £20 on eBay, or sometimes even less. So I’m not too bothered that the PS3 has Warhawk and maybe a few other cheap decent games in the future. But anyway, about Patapon, yeah it looks good but my PSP is broke so I can’t get it >:(
