One of our readers, Jeff Spicoli (not that Spicoli), snapped this photo today at his local Target store in Reston, VA. Take a good look and tell me what’s wrong in this picture. If you get this question wrong, we’re pulling your gamer card.

Thanks for sending us your picture Jeff. For your troubles, we’ll be sending you one of our first-run Sarcastic Gamer T-Shirts (as soon as they are available.)
This brings up a point that I have been meaning to touch on for a while. Why is it so hard for these big retailers to keep their games sections in working order? The Wal-Mart near my house has had a bad PS3 and Xbox for about 3 months now, and when the console DOES work, there’s usually something else broken, like a controller. Read on!—>
It seems to me that MS, Nintendo, and Sony ought to be out there ensuring that their products are being shown in a manner that’s consistent with the image they want to portray. They’re paying BIG MONEY for placement in these stores, and while that’s a lot to keep up with, its obvious that things aren’t being implemented correctly.
In case you missed it, over the holidays, Lono and I snapped THIS picture at our local Wal-Mart.
If the Red Rings of Death make you chortle, here’s a parody song that we did a few months ago that’s still getting a lot of traffic these days here at Sarcastic Gamer.
If you spot something goofy like this, take a picture and send it to us. If we use it on our website, we’ll send you a free Sarcastic Gamer T-shirt.

I saw this at my Target a few months ago. The employee told me it was in “sleep mode”. I was THIS close to kicking him in the nuts for being an idiot.
Why do the show case modles always crash Hmmm. They in a small plastic/glass case, left on for almost 24/7 the back ends have melted off.
It’s mystery I guess.
Why can’t I type English any more?
I’ve seen this alot in big box stores. I’d say that I haven’t been to a target that had a working one in quite a long time.
in the local dicksmith the controller is busted and all these other things are broken
What – I don’t see anything.
lol@CPal
The 360 in our store over heats occasionally when it has been on for a long period. Operating inside a glass cabinet for over 10 hours along side a running PS3 doesn’t help either. But normally when it does red ring we just turn it off and let customer play the ps3 (if that hasn’t over heated)and after a while it cools down and its all good to go again. Some customers come up and tell us that the 360 is dead and make jokes about it. I tell them that it is just overheated and not dead. Explain the whole glass cabinet and heat from ps3 thing… they normal don’t get it, or chose not to because it much more fun making jokes and crying foul to Microsoft/Retailers (much like this article is).
We have gone through 2 ps2 controllers (we use PS2 controllers on the PS3 due to them being wired so they can’t be stolen). And only gone through 1 wired 360 controller. Why do the controllers break you ask….. easy. CUSTOMERS! Its not their controller so why not thrash it and drop it on the ground and throw it on the glass cabinet because they died in the game. You can blame the stores all you want for not having working controllers… but in the end when you have 50 plus different people a day playing on something that isn’t theirs… why do they care if they look after it.
Well, my sig on the forums is one of these display xboxes that red ringed, and it’s an elite! do I get a t-shirt too?
Chris Paladino is so funny. Isn’t he?
Is it just me or does the shelf the 360’s sitting on look like its melting and collapsing under pressure.
HAHA the shelf’s melting! lol (ps i know its probably the desing of the shelf)
WOOPS dbl post…stupid internet
does the elite version get the RRoD ?? say no, please say no
“does the elite version get the RRoD ?? say no, please say no”
I’d say no, but I’d be a liar.
Yeah I’m surprised that Microsoft doesn’t have more interest in the display models, usually they are locked away in small unventilated cases which is just a recipe for an RRoD. Microsoft could design a (better) kiosk with enough ventilation capacity and this would be a rare occurrence.
@Alecsander_C the early Elites are no different than the original 360s from a cooling perspective, sometime after the summer of 07 they released Elites with improved cooling design, I’m not aware of any of these experiencing an RRoD at this point.
when I go to my Target or K-Mart store for a few weeks there 360s werent working so I was like they hav the RRoD but now I go into K-mart it works then I go into Target and they dont have one at all instead they have…….. a DS…….. with Hearing Traning on it…. uh huh that against a 360 that got the RRoD…. Id rather look at the 360 I cant play then go home and play my un RRoded 360!
i just got the RRoD after having the console for about 2 years. It Reeally Really sucks!
