If you followed engadget’s live coverage of the Philips CES presentation, there was a convenient tidbit of info “leaked”. According to Philips’ Stewart Miller, it looks like America’s second largest retailer Target is going Blu-ray exclusive… Now we’ve known for a while that they only sell Blu-ray players and they’ve preferred Blu-ray over HD-DVD when it came to prominent display space, but this would seem to be the first outright mention that Target’s going Blu-ray exclusive.
Newly updated, after the jump…
It seems HD-DVD just can’t catch a break this weekend. Will there be more “beans” spilled later today? Will Bill Gates’ keynote have any news to keep the HD-DVD guys from feeling Blu themselves? If anything amazing happens, look for our spin on it right here at SarcasticGamer.com
UPDATE: It looks like Gizmodo has claimed this rumor “debunked”. I’m sure more info will come forward on this (and other) HD-DVD/Blu-ray stories very soon, stay tuned.

From Gizmodo.com: Fire out of the Philips press conference was that Target was going Blu-ray exclusive, a rumor that had already made the rounds before and was debunked. We just talked to the Blu-ray guys and to Philips—it’s actually the same news as before. Target is still selling HD DVD discs and the Xbox 360’s HD DVD player. God, it would’ve been the last thing HD DVD needed.

just because there selling them now dose not mean they arent going to cut support after current stock is sold out
you think HD will just let them return everything?
highly unlikely

@Hollowcow, trust me… when things like this happen, it makes for some great “sarcastic” news coverage! We love corporate failure, it keeps us busy!
