MGS4 Rumors, Dates, and Other Made Up Stuff?

mgs4.jpgIf you are a PS3 owner, or you’re waiting to become one, you may finally have some good news.

If you’re a 360 owner, you may also have a bit of a skip in your step today. A long awaited title has been locked into yet another release date and there’s word that it could be cross-platform.

If you can’t figure it out by the picture, check out the rest, after the jump!

Gamestop, a trusted name in gaming with… fair…used game prices, has announced a release date for the much anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4. Could it change again? Certainly. It has changed twice already.

Put that on your calenders. Write it in pencil, or write it very small, just in case it changes. The fact that it’s an actual date and not just a month or season is very encouraging.

In other MGS4 news the rumors about the game coming to the 360 have resurfaced. We heard through out 2007 that it would only be a timed exclusive. This time the rumor is the release date will be about a year after the PS3 release. I won’t believe it until I see something a little more concrete than the he said she said s*** that’s out there right now.

Some sources say that Konami gave back the money that Sony paid to have MGS4 as an exclusive, while others say the money was never paid and it was a mutual support agreement. That still brings up the question; if Konami is doing it, are they doing it for the money or because it has lost faith in Sony?

What a way to kick off 2008.

My guess is the Konami wants to make more money and there are WAY more 360’s then PS3’s.

Everybody remembers the whole “we must sell 1mil. to recoup” story, why is there any reason to believe it’s anything BUT monatery. Hey saves me some cash if it comes to 360 though.

      MGS4 cross-platform?

Was that the sound of Rothbart’s heart breaking? :)

Nope. This would equate to Gears of War hitting the PS3 in April ‘08. It would matter to very few people.

Anybody seriously interested in MGS4 wouldn’t wait 14 months if it were THAT important to them. Who would wait 14 months just to buy the game on the 360?

Also, who _honestly_ thinks there will be no other compelling games on the PS3 in the next 12-14 months? Add all that up, and there’s the reason this doesn’t matter (if it ends up being true). The people this game is targeted at won’t wait 12-14 months to play it on the 360. The PS3 will be an undeniably valid platform choice long before then even to the Xbot PS3-haters of the world. To some it already is…

People usually talk 6 months when talking timed exclusive, this rumor states at least DOUBLE that.

And at this rate, this rumor will likely only be settled after the game no longer matters…

*shrugs* It doesn’t matter to me NOW. Never cared much for the MGS franchise. Just never got into it, I guess.

And don’t lump me into the “PS3-hater/xbot fanboys” group. I have a 360, sure, and I’m a staunch defender of MS (reading Major Nelson’s blog would show you that), but that doesn’t mean I hate the PS3. I could afford one system, and “the box” had a library of games I cared about, and upcoming titles (Halo 3 specifically, along with Mass Effect) that I wanted to play. If they had been for the PS3, I’d have gotten that one.

Honestly, I want both to be 100% viable and competing consoles. I WANT the PS3 to do well, because compitition is ALWAYS good for the consumer.

I just happen to think that Sony has made some huge mis-steps (many if not all are the direct fault of what I can only call a completely retarded PR job), but I’m not sure they are fatal. Certainly the losses incurred by Sony aren’t helping it, but I don’t think it’s a killer. In time, costs will drop, consoles will get cheaper, more people will get them, and Sony’s PS3 division will start to crawl slowly out of the gaping red hole they are in.

And as I’ve said before, I eventually intend to get one, but almost solely for the Blu-Ray feature, since it IS the better AV format.

I just have to get an HDTV first…

this game changes its mind about being multi platform or not so much that i could not give a flying sh*t if its 360 or not
