How Lono Got His Xbox Back.

Yup, my Xbox 360 died.  About a month ago.  Didn’t notice?  Didn’t hear me complain.  That’s because I had a plan.  A master plan.

A super-duper master plan.

Find out what the hell I’m talking about, after the jump!

For months, my DVD drive wouldn’t work right.  It would constantly not open when I pressed the eject button.  It wouldn’t close either. Also, without fail, if I turned the system on and immediately went into a game, after about ten minutes into the game, the system would inexplicably attempt to open the disc drive.  Without pressing the eject button.  Weird.

I knew it’s time would come.  Thank god I bought a trusty warranty from Microcenter when I initially purchased the system back in November of 2006.  For a measly $30 bucks.

So first I called Xbox.  Turns out that my warranty had expired and I am not making this up, the day earlier.  One freaking day.  So, I turned to my trusty warranty.

I called the warranty people the next Sunday, when I got back into town and was directed to my local Microcenter to exchange the item.  Upon arrival, two year old in tow, I was told that I couldn’t exchange the Xbox because the Warranty people didn’t work on Sunday, even  though I had just talked to them on the phone. At this point I was getting a little bit pissed.  I had just talked to the warranty people… WTF?

Undaunted, I tracked down the general manager, Glen, with whom I had known from my coverage of the Halo 3 launch.  Glen, being the kick ass manager he is, took care of me and processed the transaction so I wouldn’t have to go home empty-handed.

The manager even told me that they were discontinuing their all encompassing warranty, because the company that handled it was losing their arse on it because of all of the xbox returns.

Anyway, my warranty allowed me to exchange my broken xbox for a new one.  Luckily, the only premiums they had were bundled with Marvel Alliance and Forza 2.  I was even able to keep my old hard drive too.

Score.

So now, I have Forza 2, Marvel Alliance (Again) and a new premium with the HDMI port.

Thanks Microcenter!

You forgot thepart where you left your game disc in the drive. Personally, I think that’s classic.

      Was it CoD 4?

How many games have you lost, or insisted were stolen, only to find you screwed up or misplaced them?

      It’s been a lot.

Oh and these folks may not have heard you complain, but I sure as hell did.

Oh he acts all calm and cool in this article, but that ain’t exactly how it went down.

Lono’s Master plan: use the money he had got from ign and 1up for killing gamespot’s reputability to just go out and get a new 360 and a copy of Kane and lynch.

As Doc mentioned, the Police report paints a very different picture.

I know that I will eventually get the RRoD. I know this. I’m just hoping it will last for another year. I’ll still be under the 3 year RRoD warranty extension…and hopefully by then Microsoft will only have HDMI-equipped refurbs to use for replacement. Here’s hoping…

RRoD - tisk tisk….. All Xbox owners should wanna kick Microsofts Arse! for this. Get a PS3 and forget the problems of your console dying.

      @ The Man

Get a PS3 and forget the problems of your console dying, and the problems of having so many incredible games to play.

Had to go ahead and finish your comment there… looks like you got cut off :)

Yeah, I totally left my Call of Duty 4 disc in the disc tray…. ROFL. I had to go back first thing in the morning on Monday to get it. Thank god they hadn’t shipped it back yet….

BTW Doc, I didn’t yell at anybody.. although I was a little disgruntled.. at first. Thanks Microcenter.

      @Doc *takes a shot*

@Lono, of the Wii, 360, and PS3 the only one I _don’t_ have an extended warranty on is the ONE that needs it the MOST! *doh*

      Getting a 360 as a gift FTL!

@Rothbart, you didn’t seem all that upset last night when I saw you playing Rock Band on your 360…. Doh!

      Zing!

      My current 360 hasn’t RRoD’d….

      oh….

hope that when I get my 360 it doesn’t pop the RRoD, cause I live in Mexico and that would suck. I don’t know if I can send it to the US microsoft and get it back, nor do I know how long would it take to get back.

They better fix the RRoD with xbox ULTIMATE, or else i would just stick with PC gaming. Funny how i havent seen an article about Ultimate on SG yet… or have i?

I’m cursed with RRoD’s I’m currently on xbox number 31/2 the 1/2 being when my harddrive fried itself when the fans cooling it didn’t work. Luckily I have Best Buy’s “Throw it down the stairs we don’t care” Warranty amd just take it back for a new one at my convince.
