Undertow, the game that was supposed to make us look past the XBL down time. Free for everyone, for a limited time. Finally, a gamer night that anyone and everyone that had a 360 could get in on.We were pretty excited to get to include more than just the regular CoD4 folks. I think the listed ended up being around 45 people, our biggest gamer night to date.
Boy, were we disappointed.
It all started off innocently enough. We hoped gamer night could be a way to capitalize on your “compensation.”
I looked over my list of gamertags for those that were going to be playing in my group. We had such a big response we had to split the gamer night participants into three different groups for Lono, Yousty and I to share. I sent out the invites and those who showed up were, shall we say, very unexcited, to be playing Undertow.
When I was a kid, I always wondered what it was like to drive a submarine around in a fish tank. Well, thanks to Undertow, now I know… it sucks. We suffered through three mind-numbing rounds. Dang, it seemed that the only way to have fun while playing the game was to mock it while playing.
The first round we got our asses handed to us by the bot team. The second round, we won, but it didn’t feel like a win. We thought we had lost badly, but then we were handed our hollow victory.
Viatrophy saying over and over with his British accent, “this is ridiculous, those giant lobsters are firing electricity” pretty much summed up the night. For some strange reason ripping that game a new one, sounds so much more severe when you say it with a British accent.
All I have to say about the game play is that spear gun does not trump a submarine. Also, why in the hell do they have you zoomed so far out? It was like watching sperm swimming in utero. Then I zoomed in and they looked like sea monkeys.
During the third round, we ran out of jokes and simply hoped that the game would be good. The good news was, after those three rounds, we switched to Call of Duty 4 and owned. Ahh…it was good to be back home again. The best part was that we were destroying people in domination. Maybe we should play Undertow as a warm up to kicking some tail on CoD, from now on?
I hope that you downloaded your “compensation,” because it’s no longer free. If you missed out, you didn’t miss much. It’s too bad you can’t trade XBL games in like you can regular games. Then I could get something worth half a damn.
All in all, despite the slow start, it was one of the best gamer nights we have had. We enjoyed playing with all those who took part. See you all next week!

Haha, my group of guys actually played for about an hour….
Then we realized that the “lobby game” was a lot more fun which involved all of us just sitting there and discussing video games as a group.
So good job Microsoft on giving us a game that is pretty much only good as a conference room

Yeah since just joining the site I’m glad to find a group of gamers that aren’t necessarily going to open an Xbox Live conversation by calling me a “small stick/cigarette in British slang”. I’m just sad that I have a PC and thus will never get COD4 for the 360. Besides Halo, I will always pick keybaord/mouse over a dam gamepad.

My xbxo is still busted It only worked long enough to download the free undertow then I sent it back to microsoft for free repair.

I loved the lobby game. It was really nice of them to include a scuba minigame to help pass the time, from time to time.

yea the cod4 was fun i was in lono’s group we won most of our games then we played with doc later that night it was like 3:30 (east coast) when i stoped u guys we still playing

I got it on PC and you know what? Five minutes after I installed it my PC’s power supply blew up.

well im so upset that i missed that gamer nite
but thats what we have to llok forward to with digital download. sure its great to get it lickity split.( well thats if more than 12 people try downloading the same thing) but, you cant trade it in to the game gestapo, or you cant let your finacially challenged friend (dave) borrow the game. game companies would really regret doing digital downloads because they wouldnt sell as many copies as they do now
