Well, our first Hump-Day Update came out today. As part of the bi-weekly updates, we’ve begun issuing end of the week predictions. My first prediction was that people downloading and playing Undertow would crash the Xbox Live Servers.

Guess what? Find out, after the jump.

My prediction came true.

Turns out, a ton of people wants them some free gameage and took to the internets to get them some free stuff. When they logged on and attempted to download the game, they received this message:

“can’t retrieve information from Xbox LIVE. Please try again later.”

Great, just friggin great. On the other hand, I need to go buy a lottery ticket. See ya later.

So will 360 owners get Undertow 2 as a “gift” for crashing servers when they tried to download Undertow as a “gift” for crashing servers?

You know….Ever since this whole Xbox live is down thing I have only noticed it three or four times. Perhaps I am just lucky but I have had no problems with live so far in the last few weeks. When I went to download Undertow I had to select it twice because the first time it said it was unavailable.

Everybody I know has yet to complain about live messing up in the last several weeks.

So what happens when you can’t get the free game because of the servers? You get another free game?

I got this message once. But since I did this late at night near the Exact 2 AM time they put it up before I went to bed I only got this once. And sinceI keep all xbox live trials on MY hard disk unlocking the game took 2 secounds.

MY xbox 360 is also broken and it only turns on for about 1 minute before it goes red lights and i stil do not have a return box from microsoft if I missed my free game I would have rasied hell at microsofts repair number.

I was wondering; what do I get if i already had UnderTow? Do I get a different game for free?

    • 12 Nathan Z // Jan 24, 2008 at 10:43 am

Did anyone notice that Undertow being free was in no way announced on Live. You literally had to be aware of the offer from/through websites like Sarcastic Gamer.

Although there are a lot of us “in the know” and we apparently have the collective ability to bring the marketplace to it’s knees, there are going to be A LOT of people missing out on MS’s appology. That just grinds my gears.

Like I mention in a comment on a previous post. I didn’t want a game. I just wanted an email from Microsoft saying “Sorry we messed up. We’ll do better in the future.. Thanks for sticking with us, you’re a really valued member of the Live Community.”

Nathan Z completly agree with you. Its all good for them to say oh sorry have a free game. But then they arn’t actually telling anyone really. Only a small population of Live users will check game sites like these. And if the servers crashed with this small population imagine what would happen if they announced it to everyone through the 360.

If they are really sorry they should send a message through live to apologise and offer the free game.

I was able to download it by hitting “a” a billion times, after a wile, it went from the select game, to download game, to confirm, to download. So I finally get it to download, I get all excited to turn it on and play…. and it sucks. Am I missing something? Its like geometry wars, but more complicated, in a bad way.
