Get ready to waste your free time playing a game, without actually playing a game!

All you creative (and extremely patient) types should be quite excited. Ubisoft has just confirmed that Far Cry 2 is coming to the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

Find out why this could be a big deal after the jump!

What about the map editor? I’ve played Far Cry on the original Xbox, and to me personally I thought it was just ok. It was a great open world approach to the FPS console genre, but nothing mind-blowing.  The map maker in Far Cry, on the other hand, was one of most thorough I’ve seen in a console game.

I’m not alone. If you’ve listened to any of our podcast conversations about Halo 3, you’ll notice that Doc has repeatedly compared the Forge to the map editor in Far Cry.

Halo 3’s forge wasn’t really a map editor at all. Getting to put down vehicles, and move flags isn’t exactly creating much. In Far Cry you could raise and lower terrain, truly changing environments in any way you wanted.

If Ubisoft takes a cue from Halo 3’s interactivity and they upgrade the map making system, there could be some amazing custom multiplayer games in our future!

Unfortunately, the current release date for Far Cry 2 is end of Q1 for 2008 and the dreaded “fiscal year” 2008-2009 for the consoles.

Looks like you just have to keep moving weapons and crates around in Halo 3… for now.

Yep, Forge is certainly a pile of crap; and Farcry:Insincts mapmaker was amazing (although my friends didn’t like my huge mountain withn a glider and a sniper :)).
However the gameplay was very ‘different’ in a bad way because aiming reticules were so large and guns just weren’t accurate, and had default lighnting fast turning speeds. I am normally very good at shooters but it took me a good 15 seconds to take someone down on that game. It had good gameplay ideas like zipwires, gliders, boats and swimming though, but was let down by basic gameplay.

I think overall Timesplitters:FP had a better balance of gameplay to mapmaker. Its mapmaker wasn’t so intricate as Farcry’s but it had great gameplay to go with it; however TSFP mapmaker did allow better building creation than Farcry’s ready made barracks/hut.

This time i want farcry to see better gameplay to go with the mapmaker.

if they improve a few of the basic flaws from the first one this could turn out stunning

Not that you ignorants seemed to notice, but this is a sequel to the ACTUAL Far Cry for the PC, not the woefully inferior Instincts. The original is now a free download, by the way, if you wish to test it out.
