For those of you who missed some of my most recent articles, I’ve been hyping the upcoming release of Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor more than Yousty hyped Super Mario Galaxy. I can’t say enough great things about this game, which is still in the beta phase. This expansion to one of the greatest turn-based titles of all time has me checking my calender every day in anticipation of when the final version will be released.
Alas, it appears the expansion is being delayed once again (it was to be released at the end of this month). Strangely, I’m not all that upset. A little disappointed that the game is not out there for everyone to enjoy yet, but that is tempered by the fact that this expansion still needs work and rather than pull an EA on die-hard fans, Stardock made the smart move and delayed the release.
Find out what the Stardock had to say about the delay and when we can expect the game to be released after the jump!
Here’s what developer “FrogBoy” had to say:
“The bad news, if you can call it that, is that we’ve decided to substantially push back the release date — all the way to the end of March.”
“So while delaying the game may set back my plans at getting a jewel-encrusted segway, I think given the way the expansion pack is going, we have a real opportunity to release something that will be remembered long into the future.”
“What we’ll do with that extra time is continue to flesh out the unique civilizations and beef up the computer players to be increasingly more interesting and unique per player. A big thing I’d like to do is to use the time to have the computer players also play uniquely on top of having unique technologies (that includes the minor races btw).”
I’m cool with that. As I have said before, this expansion is so big it could almost be called GCIII. I think they may have underestimated the amount of work they were taking on, especially when it comes to AI. If the forum threads and what I have heard from other beta testers is true though, nobody is all that upset. A bunch of us played the UaW and CnC3 betas and given the train wrecks those two games were upon release, we have no qualms about spending a few more months making this game the titan it deserves to be. Gamers can still get their Arnor fix by pre-purchasing the title; which gives them access to the beta.
The boys over at Stardock are quickly becoming the opposite of their big studio rivals. In all the right ways. Frogboy, you’re the wind beneath my wings! *sniff*

I still haven’t picked up GalCiv, but that’s because I keep looknig for it on store shelves. I think I should just suck it up and buy it off of Stardock instead of endlessly playing the original GalCiv to boost my scores on the metaverse nobody cares about anymore
At least if I get the game now, I’ll have mastered it by the time the expansion pack comes out, right? Ah, who am I kidding.
