Consoles Scare Me. A Tall Tale By PMPB.

twilight zone
I awoke this morning to discover my PC had died. Not the sweet old man “he died in his sleep” type of end; more like a “I didn’t think spontaneous combustion really happened” kind of death. My tower had exploded, showering pieces of detritus all over my office, ruining my keyboard and all my other PC tech goodies.

What to do! Within moments I was already beginning to feel the first stages of video game withdraw; shaking hands, cold sweat, a constant need to press a button and yell “pwned!”over a mic I no longer had; it was unbearable!

Seeing no other alternative, I called up my neighbor and begged him to bring over his PS3. Perhaps he sensed my desperation or maybe he was like any other peddler of nefarious wares and was just eager to convert me to PS3-fanboydom; either way he was over to my home in minutes.

Despite the graphics being much lower than I am accustomed to and having to use this odd thing called a “controller,” I felt my gaming withdrawal symptoms begin to dissipate. My now best friend “Chuck” and I settled in for a long day of PS3 gaming. Rock Band, Orange Box, COD4, Ninja Gaiden and more were played over the course of the day, and despite my sincere desire to “just say no,” I could not resist the temptation to play “just one more level.”

By the time the sun had set over 20 PS3 titles lay strewn about my living room, Cheetos and Popcorn could be found in every nook and cranny of my couch and Chuck had the devils own grin on his face. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Let’s see if we can’t beat our high score at Rock Band.”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I suddenly awoke in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. Immediately, I ran to my office, where I discovered that my PC and all my other gaming goodies where still safe and sound.

It had all been a dream; a terrible nightmare! More than a little disturbed, I went to get a glass of water from the kitchen before trying to go back to sleep. Just as I was turning to go back upstairs for some hopefully peacefully (non console involved) sleep, I turned just for a second towards my living room.

There, sitting in all its dark glory, was a PS3 copy of Rock Band!

Heh. There’s no way I’m getting a PS3. MAYBE a 360, but that’ll only be after the Wii cuts out all support for hard-core gamers.
