When Gamespot unloaded its senior editor, and infamous game review renegade, Jeff Gerstmann, there is no way they could have anticipated the amount of backlash it would see from the decision.

Gamespotgate

What made Gerstmann’s dismissal so interesting was its proximity to Eidos’ pullout of all current and future advertising dollars immediately following Gerstmann’s mediocre review of their Kane and Lynch: Dead Men title. Sarcastic Gamer went wall-to-wall coverage of Gamespot Gate, while Destructoid changed their name to CashWhore, with a logo that was quite similar to the Gamespot moniker.

For sending the whole internet into a tizzy, and for providing Sarcastic Gamer with literally the biggest traffic boost in the history of our site, Gamespot’s poorly executed dismissal of Jeff Gerstmann ranks number 7 in the Top 100 Gaming Moments of 2007.
