Wii’s 3rd Party, Not The Life of The Party

Nintendo Wiis are selling like hotcakes. Everywhere you look, stores are selling out of Wii consoles the moment they put the units on the floor. The games must be selling like crazy too, right?  Not so much.

The people whose jobs and well-being depend on their Wii games selling well aren’t happy.

More after the jump.

Goichi Suda, the director of No More Heroes, claims that third-party titles for the Wii aren’t selling in Japan and that only Nintendo titles are selling.

“Whilst the sales weren’t as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren’t selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn’t just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan.”

No More Heroes got glowing reviews from critics and still didn’t sell well. Incidents like these will hurt Nintendo in the long run. If Wii fans only buy games from the Mario, Zelda, or Metroid franchises, some other game companies might start designing for other consoles.

Suda also expressed his dislike of the Wii as a casual gamers console.

“Actually I was very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn’t expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected.”

Casual gamers buy consoles, hardcore gamers buy games. It’s a fact of life. Nintendo needs to start some franchise building with it’s third party contributors. If the Wii can’t find a way to get it’s third party titles to sell better they might end up being the only one at the party.

There will come a day where everyone gets tired of hanging out with Mario, Link and Samus. They’ll be like the college kids that go to high school parties and have real lives.

Lame.

Wii would like to…. know who is buying all these wiis?

Yeah, Nintendo scared us real gamers off with the overly plasticy and kid-friendly appeal. Things like the Wii-Zapper make me sad. (the freaking boxed-in duckhunt gun was no biggie though!)

I was looking forward to no more heroes, but I AM NOT buying a wii. Why? the same reason I sold my Gamecube. Few of the games really catered to me anymore, and nintendo continued to provide only heaps more of the junk kiddie crap. (mario party is fun, how about some more Eternal Darkness now?)

In fact, Nintendo. How about some games that actually UTILIZE the Wii’s control scheme! Most of your own first-party titles don’t even use them that extensively (ssbb, Super Mario Galaxy). So when it comes to third parties, most of them only slap on a new face to the Wii-play formula.

If I have $50 I can get a Wii game, right? Wrong, I can’t buy any new games untill SSBB finally comes out because I don’t want to run out of money(I’m young). But I think that by the time it comes out I could buy my own TV.

The problem is… WE (the loud, hardcore 10%) KNOW Nintendo is really not doing anything great, they are letting some gimmicky games.

The sad part is… Nintendo is doing this on purpose, to draw some more casual gamers. And they don’t care about us 10%.

I used to think this was a good thing, but they are just turning their backs on us
