Never too much of a good thing.

Sequels.

One of the cardinal rules of the video game industry: If it made you money once, milk that title for all it’s worth. Even though many gamers expect a bigger and better installment of the franchise they love, expectations and reality do not always come together. Need For Speed ProStreet being a perfect example of when expectations fall far short of reality. Sometimes though, just sometimes, a developer finds themselves a line of video games that consistently brings in that all mighty dollar.

Find out which developer and which games are making another run at your money after the jump!

Activision Blizzard, the new video game publishing king, has confirmed that some of the best selling franchises in years, and 2007 in particular, are going to be making another appearance. Call of Duty 5, Guitar Hero 4, a new James Bond and a new Tony Hawk are all set for yet another incarnation of their respective franchises. Though I should point out that CoD 5 will apparently be developed by Treyarch (ala CoD 3) and not Infinity Ward. For once, I’m not worried. All four have amazingly successful track records, with only a few minor slips (even CoD 3 was above average), and unlike so many long winded series, I have little doubt this new wave of Activision titles will sooth the savage gaming beast inside me.

Activision’s track record with their main line up speaks for itself. Now, word has also come down that new DreamWorks, Marvel and Bizarre Creations games are also in the works.

I’m especially looking forward to see what Marvel, who’s track record for quality comic book games is as high as their track record for the movie industry, is going to produce.

Either way the 2008 video game season has started to look a whole lot less barren compared to the 2007 hurricane of games. I can’t wait to see how crazy the next CoD is going to be; my girlfriend may just leave me for good this time!
