Master Chief, Kratos, and Mario are all dirty!

Two weeks ago SarcasticGamer ran an article about the Greenpeace “Guide to Greener Electronics.” The guide contained a listing for the three console manufactures (Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo) and rated them on a variety of environmental topics like recycling etc…

Now, those tree loving, oily beach cleaning hippies have taken their grievances with the big three one step further. Greenpeace has created a new site called Clash of the Consoles. The site features Master Chief, Kratos, and Mario, representing their respective consoles and provides information (what looks like the same stats from the aforementioned Guide) on each consoles environmental standing.

The site seeks to educate gamers on the environmental dangers of their favorite consoles and get them to write manufacturers and encourage them to adopt “greener” practices. Especially Nintendo which holds the lowest score (o) the Guide/Greenpeace has ever given out in their reports.

The site is actually set up pretty well. It features a flashy layout and a video (lame and I doubt approved by the big three) which features Master Chief, Kratos, and Mario promoting the race for “the greenest game console ever.” At one point in the video Mario poops out a mushroom after seeing the amount of pollution consoles produce, I kid you not.

Greenpeace: Battle for the Future
“In gamespace, everybody wants to save the world. But back here on planet Earth, your favourite games console contains deadly agents of real destruction: toxic chemicals that shouldn’t be there and may be contributing to mountains of e-waste when thrown away. Clash of the Consoles is the website where you can check out how your favourite game heroes stand up against their rivals, and how you can help battle the boss monsters to green their game.”

I doubt very much the site will have much of an impact on the big three, or most gamers for that matter. However, they do have a point, and this is a good step towards educating people about the environment and how they contribute to its destruction. Personally I have more than enough immediate problems to worry about, but I applaud Greenpeace for trying. This is a much more reasonable way to promote awareness than protesting outside Microsoft HQ or staging a hunger strike outside a Nintendo factory (or whatever kind of craziness they have done in the past to other companies).

Really, I’m waiting to hear they are being sued for using the likenesses of Master Chief, Kratos, and Mario; but since Greenpeace IS just a bunch of hippies, I doubt they will get any loot out of the deal.

Your move Nintendo (A.k.A the baby seal killer!)

Didn’t Nintendo get a zero because they didn’t submit information or something..?

^ Nope, most of the categories are based on published industry numbers and reports, though two of the sections seem a bit arbitrary. Nintendo got blasted because they really do have a bad enviro policy.
