GOTY: Elevator Ride Edition!

I’m about 7 hours into Mass Effect and I’m struck by one thing.  Not the conversations or the combat.  It’s the elevator rides.  This game has the best damn elevator rides that I have ever played.  Oh, it also has the most elevator rides in a game that I’ve ever played.

Yes, I’ve played Elevator Action.  Mass Effect has more elevator rides than Elevator Action.  Mass Effect has more up and down action than this website after the Digg Effect.

Read more about Mass Effect’s special elevator rides, after the jump!

Normally, games just zip right through the elevator ride. Not in Mass Effect!  Nope, in this game you’ll ride on elevator after elevator in slow, excruciating 720p.

Most games have only one or two elevator rides, at the most.  Not in Mass Effect!  You can’t go friggin anywhere without partaking in the stand and stare meditation, known as the elevator ride.  You’ll Stand!  You’ll Stare!  You’ll wait silently, for what seems like an eternity, for that door to open… All in the name of Fun!

That’s why Mass Effect is the winner of the Sarcastic Gamer’s Elevator Ride Simulator of the Year!

Congratulations!

There was a lot of competition, but in the end, with over 5 plus hours of just standing in an elevator, it was a no brainer.

Way to pad out your game length in such a creative way Bioware!  That’s why you’re Sarcastic Gamer’s Elevator Simulator of the Year!

If you’re an elevator enthusiast, Mass Effect is a must buy!

I assume the elevators are to mask loading…but you’d think they could take a page from what was it, Jak II, and make it so you at least could walk around and DO STUFF in there? So its not like “get a sandwich time”?

What if you dont give a damn about elevators?

What if you dont give a crap about third person shooters masquerading as RPGs?

What if you scramble for your remote the second you hear the Star Trek theme because you just cant stand mass market Sci-Fi crap?

      Oh I know.. pass

Well at least sometimes there are some news clips over the radio or some stimulating conversation between characters during the ride. The elevator in your ship is the worst!

Is it so hard for them to throw in a mini game like Tetris or Galaga to play during the loading?

      That would rock.

I just love how the elevator shoots up to greet you, but them you step in and it’s slower than a Tooter the Turtle - HELP MR. WIZARD!! Get me off this elevator!!
