Over the last week, rumors that Australian developer Auran was going to be laying off scores of employees had been circulating. Unfortunately for Auran, the rumors have proved to be true.
Don’t know who Auran is? Don’t worry, your not the only one. As far as I know the developer has not produced one decent, popular title yet.
Due to the lackluster, or should I say absolutely pitiful success of Auran’s flagship MMO title “Fury” (scoring a woeful 55 on Metacritic), the developer is cutting back on staff.
Still not sure who these guys are? Find out more after the jump!
This is the same bunch of geniuses who believed the XBLA Battlestar Galactica game was not a total insult to fans. The only game of quality they ever produced was Trainz; but since I didn’t even know it existed until I looked it up, I doubt that series is bringing in much loot to the less than empty Auran coffers.
Besides confirming rumors of coming layoffs, Auran CEO Tony Hilliam spoke about the future of Fury by saying: “whilst FURY has started off slower than expected, I still see a bright and long future ahead.” and “the death of Auran and FURY has been greatly exaggerated.”
Yes he did say whilst. I didn’t add that in there.
Ummm, I’m sorry Mr. Hilliam, but dead is dead. If nobody is playing, caring, or even aware of your game now, how in the wide world of hades do you plan to get MMO gamers to play your tripe with mega star MMO’s like WarHammer and Conan on the horizon?
After hearing some of the insanity this guy spouted off, I consider it nothing short of a miracle this company hasn’t gone under completely. FASA is dead, but these guys are around? How do these guys even get hired to run game development companies while I struggle as a low end government clerk?
Unbelievable.

Well if the tone of your writing is an indication, maybe it’s because game studios don’t like hiring jerks.
Touché
not just a low end government clerk, but a Canadian low end government clerk
