Episode 20: In Memory of James Price McKinney

December 17th, 2007 at 10:58 pm · 14 Comments

Quite simply, this episode of the podcast is a tribute to the best friend I ever had. I’d like to thank Lono, Alex, and Dave for agreeing so easily to do this. This episode features a new spin on an old story, and features the comedic talents of my dear, departed friend. For the purists in our midst, this episode has almost nothing to do with video games, however it does reveal something of the hidden pre-history of Sarcastic Gamer. I appreciate you and anyone else that listens to this episode. Price was a tremendous friend, and a hell of a funny guy. The “Redneck Christmas Carol” was written by Doc Adams and Price McKinney and was produced by Brent Michael Davis with Doc and Price.

James Price McKinney

Price,

You were the best friend I ever had. I will miss you until I see you again.

“Tears in a bucket… Fuck it.”

Doc

There’s some things I don’t have now
Some things I don’t talk about
These things are between myself and I
In my thick skull the joker hides

There’s consequences I’m scared to taste
Cold hard truths I can’t face
These days are different than the past
Reflections change in the looking glass

And everywhere I look there’s something to learn
A sliver of truth from every bridge we burn
A hatful of quarters and a naked song
Don’t answer the question of where we belong

How come birds
Don’t fall from the sky when they die?
How come birds
Always look for a quiet place to hide
These words
Can’t explain what I feel inside?
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide

These independent moves I make
This confidence I try to fake
You can hear the beating of my heart
But not a feather falling in the dark

And everything I hear never makes any sense
Another old prophet perched on the fence
A cupful of pencils and a self help guru
Don’t answer the question of what I am to you

–Elton John “Birds”

I loved this episode. I felt extremely sad in the beginning and though I didn’t know Price or even like the christmas carol, I listened in because this was in celebration of a lost friend. I must say that I completely enjoyed this retelling and could not stop laughing here at work. RIP to your friend, Doc. And Thanks so much for sharing! Price was a very hilarious cat :)

One super quotable from the show: “you’re tighter than the elastic in ricki lake’s panties” rofl couldn’t stop laughing at that, ppl at work thought I was insane

I did happen to know Price and I just found out today that he passed. I can not get the tears out of my eyes.
I met Price doing a show at my bar and I laughed ever since. He could make anything funny and I loved that about him.
I wish now that I did not move so far away from Birmingham. I wish I could have known sooner.
Price played Red Neck Christmas for me. If you haven’t had the pleasure, find it and enjoy. I look forward to going home so I can download episode 20 and listen.
