So, Supa doesn’t like the new Delaware ad. Come on Supa, give these people a break!
The great state of Delaware has decided it’s time to throw their hat into the violent video game awareness ring. We should give them an “‘atta boy,” not a smack in the face.
At least they’re trying a new approach. They didn’t team up with Thompson, they didn’t make an outdated list, and thankfully, they didn’t try to ban video games all together.
Why Supa needs a slap after the break!
The state is attempting a new strategy I’ve never seen before. They’re targeting parents with an ad campaign designed to increase awareness of the ESRB rating system. They’ll have radio announcements, mall kiosks, and even billboards.
Finally! Someone is accepting the fact that it’s the parents responsibility to control what games their kids play. I salute them for trying to make sure that parents know these ratings exist. Now, if we could only lobotomize some parents…
LEARN THE DAMN SYSTEM!
Compare it to movie ratings. You’re not going to let your 8 year old watch a rated R or NC17 movie. If you do, shame on you because it’s the exact same thing.
If these reach even a few uninformed parents I think it has done it’s job. You can’t get them all. Maybe they should tattoo the announcements on parents foreheads. That way, they are reminded of this system every time they look in the mirror.
How about jail time for letting any child under a certain age play GTA? I think that would make them pay attention. I’m kidding, but not really.
Once they know, then they can make informed decisions about the games they are buying their children. If your kid wants a game rated “M” say “NO!” If they start to whine and complain, beat that ass! Not really, but don’t give in. BE A PARENT!
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a “NO” and an ass whipping are worth a lot more. I think this picture can get us there, regardless of how retarded it looks. Think about it Supa.

I partially agree with this. I mean come on. It’s right there on the box. It’s not like it just has an “M” on it. It says Mature right underneath. It’s not ignorance, it’s laziness. As long as the cover of the game isn’t explicitly violent, they don’t even notice the rating down at the bottom.
You’ve got it right there – parents need to do their job. I’m a parent myself and I’m all for the Big Bad I Said No – if I gave in every time my kid whined at me, she’d have a car, a house, unlimited internet access, a pony and half of NASA – all at the age of 6.
Parents need to wise up – if you were buying a toy for your child, you would check it was age appropriate – same concept applies with games. You wouldn’t give a baby a box of Lego to chew on – it would choke and die. So with that kind of safety in mind you wouldn’t give a 9 year old aa virtual gun with an integrated chainsaw to kill Locust – however cute the blood spatters are…
You don’t want your kid to play violent games? Don’t buy them. You don’t want them sneaking M rated games into their rooms to play when you’re not around? Take their console and put it in a family area – no 8 year old is gonna crack out the Silent Hill in front of mummy and daddy, are they?
Unless they really DO want that beating…
