Well, it’s being reported that Crysis is tanking in sales along with Unreal Tournament III for the PC… Wow… PC sales in decline?  For a game that requires a supercomputer to run?

OMG.  PC sales are in decline.  I wonder where I heard that one before???

Read the grim figures, after the jump!

Crysis sold a measly 86,633, but even worse was the even measlyier (got that from the Davetionary) Unreal Tournament III sales totaling 33,995.

These aren’t one week sales figures.  The Crysis figures are from around November 13 til the end of November and the Unreal numbers are from around November 19, 2007.

Good gracious.  The end all, be all PC shooter and the haloish multi-player game are both stinking up the charts?  Who predicted that one?

Wow! Hear that?  I think that’s the sound of EA porting this one to the consoles!

Someone get Nostradamus on the phone, I want to know how bad Spore is gonna tank.

I think it has something to do with the p2p and piracy

Dunno I bought UT3 and Crysis.

I believe that stats are for US only and for retail distributin.

And I can Explain why the sales are so low. With Crysis people are waiting for cristmas to buy a new PC. And with UT3… They are playing COD4 or something. There were too much games for nowember.

Could it not just be, that as pretty as they both are, neither is any good?

My mates and I are all mad keen PC gamers, but I don’t know any of them that actually like either UT2k3 or Crysis.

@Hotcooler: the stats are from the US retailers, who make up the majority of buyers in the world…so….

X-Play last night recommended you stay away from Crysis as a gift, stating “if the person has a rig that can run it, they already have it”.

I used to be a devout PC gamer, shunning the consoles as the toys of little kids and the unworthy. Now, my gaming is almost entirely xbox360 (and wii, for the three exclusive games that are worth playing).

So what happened? XCP, Starforce, “you must have an internet connection to activate this game”, Steam, “this program requires administrator privileges so we can rootkit your PC [ok] [cancel]“, and the ability to play the game only for as many years as the publisher wants to maintain the activation servers.

Not to mention that consoles are a hell of a lot cheaper than upgrading my PC every two years to the latest ATI Video Screamer

in germany Crysis is ranked in the top10…

but - the pc is dying as a gaming plattform. the day the industry invents the ultimate copy protection will be the day the gaming-pc dies.

wow this suprised the hell out of me who would think that a game which requiring a $3000 pc would tank.

they should try and have a slyder bar or something in the graphics options so they can sell their product to a wider market

People who arent PC gamers dont deserve to play Crysis anyways… my $600 computer plus a $200 graphics card can run Crysis on high, because i know where to find the best deals in Canada(psst… its a Chinese computer store near Toronto!! =D)

I have UTIII and the story is awful and multi player is completely based on who shoots first or who has the vehicle.

I knew people that like PC gaming but gave up this year when their computers, fairly new ones, could barely play new games. One bought an Xbox 360 for Bioshock and was amazed how good it looked compared to how it ran on his PC.

How can a medium that exists in every home in the US have a dying game market? Is it the developers fault or the console makers fault?

What were they thinking with Crysis?

    • 16 Krigen // Dec 17, 2007 at 7:28 pm

But this whole “Minimum P.C Specs for games these days are too high! Rawr!” business has been going on since the days of the 486. PC gaming has been predicted by analysts as being in “Decline” as a medium for games for as long as I’ve been following the gaming world.

P.C Gaming sets the bar for graphical wizardry that the console world tries to emulate. To use a car analogy. P.C’s are the Ascari A10’s. They set the bar and commuter cars try to emulate the style.

Every new generations of consoles brings about this clash, once the consoles start to reach their technological limits, people will start looking towards the P.C market again.

      Hi

Basicly, whats wrong with you? eh!

In my country, money is like sand(you get this rite?)…and erm internet is well 56k(well not so bad).
But I played crysis through on each difficulty, and online every now and then.
Hear Here, crysis kicks the crap outa UT3.

And before you say it, no I am not one of those rich little kiddies who plays this game day in day out and as such am defending it, nothing is without its flaws.

But when you say minimum specs are so high and it costs so much I laugh, no seriously like on the floor crying laughing.
You need a 3d card capable of pixel/vertex shader 2.0+ to play this game, and well thats about it,unless you have a 5 year old pc in which case you need a new one right? Or a console that will never play crysis how they wanted it too be played which kinda defies the point of arguing/ debating/ fighting/ kickingscreamingcrying that a pc costs too much.
You know that there will never be another pc game(or for that matter shiny new console) that doesn’t use this technology…if not, here’s your coffee, wake up!

My pc is slow and useless, so I installed vista to make it even slower. Then I bought crysis, and now I run around destroying trees and nuking things whenever, just to see :)
Or loading my game when a fighter jet crashes not 20 metres behind me, just to see :)
Or losing gravity, just to see :)

Lono you rock(although SG rocks in general)…what were they thinking?
I dunno, does it matter? Its not the game that matters really, its the engine driving it!
PI makes a nice point about starforce there. I bought crysis, installed it, downloaded a crack and put my cd back in its cover. I dont need a cd to play anymore :)

The only problem I’ve found with crysis so far is that it was too short.

That $3000 pc your talking about, well if you multiply that by 10, thats what what I pay for something half as fast, if that in my country.
I tweaked the graphics myself(config files, quake 2 anyone?) and as such play with almost everything on very high, with a 8600gt.
I say this, graphics don’t make the game, what you can do with them does.

There will cometh a pc game that doseth destroy the console by simply burning it to a light crisp, and then there shalt be redemption and profanity and money spent. Soon after such an act a new console shalt be reborn. The cycle shall repeat until eternity itself no longer exists.

So you see, without pc’s there would not be consoles :)
Without consoles, people would actually have to work to buy a $3k pc..imagine that?

The only thing left to wait for is Fallout 3. When you’ll all be discussing how much it sucks because your pc can only run it on medium, while I shoot mutants and people alike in the head and watch their eyeballs roll down a hill, because omg that rocks wtf!.

I’m going back to making money now, these damn notes dry too fast, and don’t look authentic enough!

      God I hate commenting :(
