The trumpets blared and crowds roared as Microsoft’s path to the internets turned five this year. They were so excited they decided to give back to the community that had made it so popular…and paid $50 a year to be a part of it.
Find out why this is a Top 100 moment after the jump.
How could this be celebrated properly? Microsoft giving back to those who had paid to be XBL gold members? Yes! Offering more things to download? Yes!
To begin with, any person who had been a gold member since 2002 recieved $6.25 in XBL points. Awesome! Let’s do the math. Five times $50.00 equals $250.00. Okay, and Microsoft gave those gamers back $6.25? Wow, that equals roughly one and a half monts of Xbox Live… for free. Aw shucks Microsoft, you shouldn’t have. No, really, you shouldn’t have. $6.25 sucks.
Then they decided they would make regular Xbox games downloadable for $15. There are two problems with that. One, a hard copy of the game is about $10, brand new. Two, unless you have a 120 gig hard drive you are going to run out of space after a game, or two. Shame on you if you looked past number one and filled up your hard drive.
Microsoft trying to squeeze more money out of us on XBL’s fifth birthday pops up at number 48 on Sarcastic Gamer’s Top 100 Gaming Moments of 2007.
