PS3 Cell Processor

It’s no secret that Sony took a HUGE risk when they decided to put a cell processor inside their PS3. They’ve been made fun of relentlessly, even called idiots for that decision. So far they do deserve to be called idiots, because that decision to take such a huge leap forward in technology has caused them to lose the exact thing that made the PS2 such a success: The Exclusives.

GTA, Devil May Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Monster Hunter are just a few of the big name exclusives that Sony has lost over the past year. Many people say that it is because of the low sales numbers, but I think it has a lot more to do with the cell processor that Sony chose to put in the PS3. There are several developers who have come right out and said that it was a stupid move by Sony because it is so different and difficult to program for.

I guess only time will tell if taking a huge leap technologically will pay off in the long run for Sony, but for right now all it has done is hurt them.

That’s why PS3 losing several exclusives is #33 on Sarcastic Gamer’s Top 100 Gaming moments of 2007.

Thats totally bogus. The lose of exclusives: news. the idea they wanted a new powerful console which would be easily marketable: not news. Burnout paradise and COd 4 look IDentical on both consoles , developers can do it they just need to be willing to think and program differently. Just like how my mom won\\\’t stop paying for AOL even though we have high speed internet.

They put in a power CPU for multi threaded programs that nobody really programs and in single thread it is not all that hot.

But like the N64 way back when totaly screwed over the memory.

256 system for system and 256 for the RSX GPU and they really cannot be shared across the system.

The xbox 360 may be weaker \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

sony has created its consoles to last a long time but to get them to last such a long time they have to sacrifice alot. the same thing happened to the playstation 2 and look at it now. mark my words the ps3 will out sell the 360 in two years time.
