Back in April 2007, the Florida lawyer we all know and love, Jack Thompson, did something good for gamers.
He sued Kotaku.
Find out how Jack Thompson actually helped gamers, after the jump!
Shortly after the Virginia Tech tragedy, good ole’ Jackie spewed one of his insightful speeches explaining why violent video games are the root of all evil.
Kotaku.com writer Brian Crecente then wrote a scathing rebuttal. This in turn led to some angry comments about our favorite lawyer on the site which Kotaku refused to remove, and so apparently, Thompson sued them for it.
What a guy.
Like most of Jack’s video game related plans, this move backfired. Not only did the lawsuit fail, he did Kotaku a big favor my drawing a huge amount of attention to their site!
Now, if only someone would create a music video about him or something. Oh wait that’s right, we already did!
Where’s our Kotaku numbers?
That’s why Jack Thompson’s lawsuit against Kotaku checks in at number 22 on Sarcastic Gamer’s Top 100 Gaming Moments of 2007.

Wooooo, I feel bad for Thompson, everything he does helps gamers when he’s trying to get rid of them. Jack Thompson: Gamer Enemy #1.

A shame Jack-o was apparently unaware of the Court rulings that sites can’t be held civilly responsible for comments posted on them by members…
Could have saved himself some time…
