The latest round in the ongoing battle between two of the gaming industry’s biggest celebrities is set to kick off this November. I’m talking about Sonic The Hedgehog versus Super Mario. While Mario has stayed true to his Nintendo roots on the DS, Sonic has branched out to the PSP for this latest throw down.

Sonic Rivals 2 is set to hit stores the second week of November, with Mario Party following just days later. I had a chance to sit down with the two gaming legends for lunch at a local Chinese Buffet. Despite looking a little worse for wear, word is, an altercation this past weekend turned violent between the two after both men attempted to woo Lara Croft, of Tomb Raider fame, both seemed in high spirits.

PacManPolarBear: “So, how are you guys feeling? Is the animosity between you two genuine, or is it all hype?”

Mario: “You know, we’ve been in a dis a game for more than a minute now. What a happened on a the weekend was just a lil friendly fist fight over a princess. We are  really pretty atight. The media blows everything out of proportion. I admit we a use the so called “beef” to sell a the games, but who doesn’t these days?”

Sonic: “So true. Back in the day we really did beef. Mario would be all up in my kool aid, throwing salt in my game, but my homegirl Samus gave me the 411 on Mario and his mushroom habit.  After that, I was a lot more understanding. Everyone in da streets knows about my penchant for snatching gold rings, so who am I to hate on him? Now that Mario has them mushrooms under control, it’s all good. Seriously though, when he was on dem mushrooms it was like he became a giant.”

PacManPolarBear: “Well that is surprising. Now, you’re both known for being some of the hardest working men in the industry today. Can you give our SG readers a rundown of your latest projects? Why did you choose them and what do you think they offer today’s gamers?”

Sonic: “Well we all know dat sequels are where it’s at right now. And ya, Sonic Rivals 1 was not that hot, we only had a few stages, the level design was whack and it took me forever to find out how to get around that ***********. But I really feel that there is some serious paper to be made. Who doesn’t want to have a super fast foot race, jumping around, bumpin into fools and ****. I think my crew really put it together dis time, Sonic Rivals 2 is gonna be the bomb son!”

Mario: “A super fast foot race? That’s a weak, very weak…Just a playin Sonic, you know you’re my boy. Me, I thought I’d add a lil freshness to the DS. It’s a me, Mario! My people on the streets been calling out for a new Party, so I thought, let’s just a throw another mini-game party for the DS! I think this a new game is a gonna be sweet!”

Well there you have it. A new game for the DS and PSP featuring these two leading men. Their careers seem to have no end in sight, despite criticism about their age.

Unfortunately, our interview was cut short by the unexpected arrival of the Pokemon crew. Both Sonic and Mario have a long standing beef with the Pokemon boyz. This reporter finished his meal hiding under the table as Sonic started spinning into a ball of destruction and Mario seemed to grow into a goliath.  The rest was all lightning flashes and fireballs!
