It seems Sony Computer Entertainment of America is dropping their ad agency of 13 years.  13 years?!?!  That’s like the entire lifespan of the Playstation product line!  Holy dropkick!

But wait…  the Playstation 3 ads out right now are the best we’ve seen for the product yet!  How can that be?!  Oh, my bad, I forgot… we’re talking about Sony here.  Have you seen any of their European “This Is Living” ads for the Playstation 3?  I think someone at Sony must have seen the latest US commercials and blown a gasket when they actually saw a Playstation 3 and some in-game footage.  Inexcusable!

Then again, now that I’ve made the quick joke and had a chuckle, as I look at the Playstation ads I remember from the last year in general…  we’ve got the PSP “dustball” ads, the “Dude get yer own” ads, the “PS3 in a room” ads, the racism “Black/white” ads, etc.  Now that I’ve thought about it… I can totally see deciding to reevaluate things.

I like the way the source article represented it.  I’m sure that’s the way large firms always do it “Hey puny advertising firm, whip up something to strike my fancy… if you’re better than your top competitors we’ll give you this measly $150m/yr contract to advertise our stuff.”  They’re not saying “Hey, you suck!  Company B, you’re the NEW ad agency!”  I just hope they’re not so out of the loop that they choose some ego-stroking campaign rather than a solid “build your install base and make some money” ad campaign.
