The easy part of Extra Life is motivating our amazing community to get behind  the 24 hour gaming marathon that’s coming up on October 18th (official site).

The challenging part for many people is finding the words to motivate their non-gaming friends and family to support their effort to sit on their ass for a day and play video games.

I’ve been asked for assistance by several members of this Extra Life movement who seem to be having a bit of writers block when the time comes to hit up their friends and family members for donations.

As requested, here’s the email that I sent out, although you are going to want to customize it to your own personal story and style.

TO:  EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD

SUBJ:  I AM PLAYING VIDEO GAMES TO FIGHT CANCER

Dear Friends, Family, and Associates,

On Saturday, October 18th I am going to have a LOT of fun. Not only am I going to get to play video games for 24 hours straight, but I am also going to be raising money and awareness to fight pediatric cancer. The program is called Extra Life.

Cancer attacks kids across all demographic and geographic lines. It is ruthless and very scary for both a child and their family. It’s my hope that through Extra Life and other programs that raise money for research and treatment, we will continue to see the amazing strides that we have seen in the past 20 years.

I am dedicating my efforts in memory of Victoria Enmon, a young lady who I had the distinct privilege of calling my friend. Though Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia took her life this past January, her spirit lives on in this program.

I am also participating on behalf of Jordan Kurtz, an amazing little girl who’s fight against AML continues to this day and to my Aunt Louise who has fought several incredible wars with cancer.
